Tried La Cocina de Roberto for the first time. The regulars will know that additional parking can be found at the church on the same side of the street. Everyone else will try to find parking without a sign saying that they will be towed. The restaurant is actually located in a small shopping center anchored by a gas station, so parking is limited.

I was adventurous today and tried the gordita and torta in lieu of the more popular taco, fajita, enchilada, or burrito plates. I wasn’t too sure what to expect since I have never ordered either before at a Tex-Mex restaurant.

The torta was essentially a really big sandwich. It was more bread than filling, but maybe it was supposed to be that way. It tasted great with the al pastor meat. The bread seemed fresh. I couldn’t find any sign of day old aging from the texture or taste. The meat was tasty and tender as well. I ended up taking half of it to-go.

The gordita was somewhat similar to a patty melt. Two cooked thick tortillas with filling sandwiched in between. The chicharron was also great. Similar to the al pastor, it was tasty and tender. Nothing seemed over cooked or dry. The tortillas were softer than I expected. It almost seemed like a grilled cheese type texture where I expected more of a crispy crunch just by looking at it.

The habenero salsa is incredibly spicy. The owner mentioned that it was spicy but not out of this world spicy. It’s outrageously spicy. So spicy that it comes out in a small jar. The green jalapeño sauce is about as spicy as was willing to go.

The other plates coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. They seem to put a lot of time in plating those meals. Unfortunately, the gordita and torta a la carte items didn’t get the same treatment.

The customer service was stellar as well. Very hospitable even during the lunch rush.

If you get over the limited parking and lack of complimentary chips & salsa, you will definitely...

Our niece brought us here while visiting from Florida. She said it was her favorite breakfast place so we decided to have breakfast here too. Location: Don’t be fooled thinking it’s attached to a gas station. Unassuming for sure sitting between a gas station and inspection station. Inside was clean and casual, a place where you felt welcomed. Food: excellent breakfast tacos, I had egg whites & potato’s topped with pico, avocado & sour cream. My spouse had the same but added cheese. We also had freshly brewed coffee. Value: reasonably priced, especially since it was fresh and cooked to order! Service: excellent & friendly service! Our server was very accommodating. She brewed fresh decaf for me and customized my request to eliminate & add to build my own breakfast taco. I casually mentioned I loved salsa & chips, and the next think we know salsa & chips were delivered to our table(normally not a breakfast thing). They have 3 varieties of salsa, all made in house and all were very good! The owner also stopped by at our table and shared how they make their own chips, salsa, fresh squeezed orange juice, etc . Misc: they have 2 locations and cater & have a mobile unit for various functions. Family friendly and open 6 days per week serving breakfast, lunch & dinner (closed on Sunday). Give them a try, especially if you like fresh Mexican food with...

Full Disclosure- Long review

So I went to the Woodlands and we found this place. We checked the website and reviews and it looked good.

Drinks Pro: Have variety of drinks Con: So, one of the cons here is I found nothing to drink. I ordered a hot chocolate, but it was very bland and flavorless. BUT: I am very picky, so maybe you will find something good.

Appetizer Pro: Molletes were tasty, and 2 had pico de gallo, and 2 didn’t. I liked that because some people like it and others do not. Con: Too much cheese BUT: I like cheese and I am not a fan of pico de gallo, so taste varies.

Main Course Pro: Very tasty Chillaquiles Divorsiados! Both red and green sauce was very good and I liked the cheese and sour cream amount too. Con: None of the sauces had any spice BUT: I cannot tolerate spice, so that wasn’t really a con for me.

Service Pro: Server was nice and answered all our questions, always smiled Cons: Wasn’t too attentive BUT: She brought us what we needed and never failed to bring us extra

Ambiance Pro: Clean atmosphere, Music playing on a good volume Con: Small and a tad bit plain BUT: Decent and good food

Summary I recommend this place. Its a very tasty place and was a pretty good...

La Cocina De Roberto has amazing food, but the service was satisfactory. We were driving through the Houston area and wanted to try authentic Mexican Food and this restaurant totally exceeded that expectation, but the service was not that great. Chips and Salsa are not included with the meal, so you must purchase them separately, but it’s worth the additional cost. The chips are homemade, delicious and very fresh. Do not expect the normal chunky salsa that you find in most Mexican Restaurants, this salsa is much thinner and not all the salsas are tomato based, but they are very good. I highly recommend ordering a side of guacamole for the chips and meal, the guacamole is top-notch. I had to ask for the guacamole a few times before I received it, as well as ask for my drink to be refilled. I believe part of the disconnect was the language barrier with our waitress. We ordered 2 entrees and both were incredible. This restaurant seems to cater more to a local Mexican clientele, but I recommend trying it if you enjoy Mexican Food and great new flavors. This restaurant was a great find.
