My family and I chose here for my birthday dinner this past weekend, based on the positive reviews we had seen. While the atmosphere was genuinely nice and we were seated immediately, the rest of the evening was a significant letdown.
Service was atrocious. After being seated right away, we seemed to have been forgotten. We waited an eternity for our drinks, and the food took over an hour to arrive, despite the restaurant having only one other occupied table. This kind of wait time for such little business is simply unacceptable, especially for a special occasion.
The ambiance, though visually pleasant, was ruined by a group of drunk, loud golfers who continuously cursed throughout our dinner. This is not the family-friendly environment one expects.
The food was a total hit-or-miss, mostly miss:
The Good: The fried deviled eggs appetizer was a standout and quite good.
The Bad: The kids' meal was disappointing, even for the 8 year old eating it. The grilled cheese was bad, the chicken tenders were bad, and the accompanying fries were cold and sparse.
The Ugly: The shrimp diablo, was inexplicably both bland and unbearably spicy—a combination that made it almost inedible.
I had hoped this would be a memorable birthday meal, but the overall experience was frustrating. While the nice setting and prompt seating were positives, they cannot overcome the extremely poor service, unacceptable noise level, and significant food quality issues. I have to assume, based on the prior reviews, that they were having an extreme "off day," but based on our experience, we would...
Read moreI have ate at the Hideout many times over the past 5 or 6 years. The menu has changed a lot in that time. When I first started going there they offered a full menu with a good variety. They had a Gentleman named Cody running the restaurant at that time and it was a great place to come relax and enjoy a good meal! Cody was very personable and checked on the costumers and visited regularly! Sense then the menu has been down sized and the quality of food and service has suffered being better at times than others. We had brunch this past Sunday and I can say they were very poorly prepared. It was right at noon when you would think your food on the buffet should be at its peak. Most of the containers of food were empty and the omelette bar was unmanned. Took some 15 to 20 minutes to get an omelette cooked. Very young and inexperienced staff. They seemed to be trying but didn’t have much guidance that I could see. For the price of $20.00 a person you would expect much better service and food. Wasn’t any option to order off menu! Can’t see us returning unless we hear of an...
Read moreI visited on a slow day for the restaurant, but I could definitely see if there was a crowd how service could be drastically different. It was a busy day for the course as there were a good number of members around playing golf and doing other activities.
+Beautiful views, even better if you're out on the deck of course +All the food I had was the best food I had during my trip to Brownwood. Professional taste and even the was very well presented at a reasonable cost. +Deviled Eggs, wow, is a must try. Tomato bisque, was as expected, but good. The Reuben was perfect. Buttery toasted rye bread tops off the expected combo of meat, kraut, and dressing sauce. +Service staff was very nice, but for as little of people, it could have been a little better. They also are dealing with bar order (drinks) as well. +Does not require membership to dine
-A little out of the way, it is a country club so makes sense. -Small dinning area in the bar room. There is more room in the foyer area, so maybe they seat people there on...
