When I lived in San Marcos I would eat here at least twice a week. Over the course of my time there I tried everything on the menu and I can safely say that there is nothing bad on the menu. That said, there are dishes that I like more than others, but I want to make it clear that it is all good. The Shwarma club pita and the gyro are excellent, and I have absolutely no reservations about recommending them to anyone, but for me, the best is the chicken tikka. I have rarely tasted anything as good as Omar's (the owner) chicken tikka: it is so moist and flavorful, it is good to the last bite... and then the last bite is even better because the sauce drips down and collects on the pita at the end. It is one of those things that you love and hate; live because it is so delicious, and hate because it means that there is no more left. But don't get locked in to the pitas, the rice bowls are equally amazing. The turmeric rice they use is incredible. Again, everything is good, but my go to rice bowl is the chicken tikka, with all the vegetables except tomatoes, feta cheese, and the house garlic sauce. Regardless of what you order though, you won't regret trying this place. To round off the meal, you should definitely try the mini baklava. They are made fresh daily, and you can taste it. A couple mini baklava and some Turkish coffee are the perfect end to the meal, or a great snack on their own. If you are hungry in San Marcos, or in Austin with an hour to spare, for yourself a favor and...
Read moreWe lived in San Marcos briefly for 6 months when we moved to Texas at the end of 2019 and I discovered this gem of a place. Since moving, we lived in Austin and now in Kyle, and I still find reasons to make the drive and come back. The cravings are real. Their chicken pita is unbelievable. The chicken shawarma is perfectly seasoned, the mushrooms and onions are so buttery soft, and the cheese is ooey gooey melted in the hot pita wrap, it literally makes me smile every time I take a bite. The fries are hot and crispy and seasoned well, and I love getting the garlic sauce as a dip option. I am a lifetime customer- I would be absolutely devastated if this shop ever closed or moved beyond where I can get to it within reasonable distance. My husband enjoys their gyro- which is very good, but I just can’t get away from the chicken pita. Support this...
Read moreIn the past nearly 35 years my wife and I have enjoyed Pita Gyros across the world. The best were the authentic tasting ones whether in Europe or at home, here in the U.S.
We had been reading about this little shop in San Marcos which had authentic tasting Gyros so yesterday we decided to take a leisurely 40 min afternoon drive from the backside of New Braunfels to try the place out.
We were pleasantly rewarded for our lengthy drive. The owner immediately greeted us. His warm charm, and that of his staff along with the VERY delicious and authentic tasting Gyros gets this amazing restaurant a full 5 Stars.
The food was very fresh. The fries were cooked perfectly. And the salads were crisp and fresh as well.
We plan to make this trip regularly in the future. I highly recommend them!
