My favorite restaurant, and it appears it just became our friends' favorite as well.
A good-looking building in a beautiful bay view location, with plenty of parking. Wait staff are always friendly, pleasant, knowledgeable, and attentive.
The mixed drinks are thoughtfully created, perfectly executed, boozy, and full of flavor. And then there's the food -- ahhh, the food. Exquisite!
In so many restaurants the brazed short rib is often a bit dry. I needed no knife to break into this remarkably plump, tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious hunk of boneless meat, floating on a bed of splendidly-seasoned mashed potatoes, tender carrots and mushrooms, and wilted baby kale, all nicely glazed with a lovely red wine demi that was eyes-rolling-in-the-back-of-your-head delicious.
The saying "You get what you pay for" is sometimes true, and other times you're saying "I could've just as good if not better myself" or "They do it better at _ restaurant." However I believe it's properly priced at the Boathouse in comparison to any other fine dining. Then again, the way things have been for the past few years, to say you're getting more than what you're paying for isn't a stretch. About $30-ish per plate (braised short rib $36) and there are lower-cost sandwiches, though still a bit pricey, but guaranteed to be delectable; the most expensive entree was the $55 filet mignon.
My intent dining this time was to finish off with a coffee desert mixed drink (w/espresso, Bailey's, Kahula, which currently isn't listed on the online menu, but is in the restaurant, and it's unbelievably yummy) but I was still feeling good from the Harbor Cask rum drink I had earlier.
So instead my wife and I finished off with a Vanilla Chai Creme Brulee, with blackberries and spiced honeycomb that was very tasty, though she said she liked a grapenut creme brulee that she got the previous time.
This was our 2nd visit to the Boathouse, but we're planning on many more. I just have to save up my allowance...
Read moreI and my wife along with a daughter and my wife's sister and her husband went here to dine on 02/23/22. We had reservations for 5:15 PM, we were seated by 5:25, with a amazing view of the sunset and surrounding landscape. The atmosphere within the restaurant was modern with the appropriate amount of lighting. Our waiter greeted us with a warm smile introducing himself, he asked if we would like some ice water, stating upon his return he would take any drink and appetizer orders. Within minutes he returned, took our our orders for drinks and appetizers. He returned in a reasonable amount of time with our drinks and appetizers. At which point he asked if we would like to order our main course, pointing out that fresh swordfish was the special that night. The appetizers we ordered were a Calamari dish and fried fritters. I ordered 3 oysters, and someone else chose the clam chowder. All but the fritters were a 5 on the 5 star system. The fritters were standard fare. Our meals were swordfish, scallops and strip steak. They arrived hot and within a reasonable time frame. The vegetables were either beans in a apple reduction and the brussel sprouts had an amazing glaze. All meals had various potatoe melodies such as whipped in a butter sauce or fingerling potatoes. Being 65 I was amazed that everyone at the table kept commenting that awesome fish or scallops, I ate the steak. What truly amazed me is the steak was cooked to perfection, 12 to 13 ounces, almost so tender I believed a butter knife would cut it. Which a person actually did when I gave her a slice. The desert we chose was the creme brulee with hand whipped cream. The other desert was banana foster, incredibly even the coffee was hot and delicious. Overall I would rate our total experience in this establishment probably the best on the...
Read moreThis was a great location we found on Yelp when we were looking for a good place close to the marina for lunch.. My wife and I were pretty casual. We just got came off our boat from fishing in Newport. The manager looked me up and down prior to being sat. That was weird. I was in a polo and jeans and was wearing a hat which I always do when boating because of the sun. Not sure was that was about. It's not a formal restaurant. We ordered some raw bar the oysters were pretty beat up the shucker was definitely new which is fine everyone needs to learn. The mignette was not what we were used to, most places we go to use shallots and black pepper but it was fine. We ordered ceviche which was fresh but was dry with no flavor. We had to ask for extra limes which we squirted the juice in and added salt and pepper then it was fine. We had both ordered paella and it was inedible. It tasted like tap water and freezer burn. It was soaked in a weird tomato sauce. Ive never seen so much liquid in paella usually the liquors is simmered off. They took the paella off my Check bit o don't care about the money what's important to me is the experience. I would have paid for the paella even though we Didn't eat it and didn't ask it to be removed and appreciate the sentiment. The drinks we ordered from the bar was spot on and the waitress was great the food wasn't her fault. It's on the water and in a great location but terrible food. If you want to go for drinks it's a great place but I wouldn't order food here. I found the place because it was local to our marina but after I tasted the food I looked up who owns the place and it's the Landry group who own a bunch of chain restaurants so makes sense. Food is one star but gave it 2 because the waitress, server and bar is great. Hopefully they find better...
