Definitely a hidden gem! Ever since I went to Maine last summer, I've been searching for a lobster roll locally in NJ that tastes as good and I think I've finally found it. Wish I had snapped a picture of it before I gobbled it up. The bun was toasted perfectly with just the right amount of butter and the lobster meat was fresh with huge pieces included. The fries and coleslaw the came with it were yummy as well. The lobster roll was much better tasting, bigger quantities of meat, and definitely better priced than any of the other spots I've checked out including Spike's, Shore Fresh, Red's, etc.
I don't ever write reviews and would definitely come back just for the lobster roll, but I wanted to take the time to shout out the staff and owners for their service. We recently went to Monte's to celebrate my godmother's birthday and not only was all the seafood delicious and cooked to perfection (I hate when people overcook tuna bites, shrimp, etc.), but the staff was friendly and super-thoughtful!
They gave my godmother a birthday appetizer on the house with huge shrimp (not those lame small ones). When I asked for an extra bowl so my young boys could split a chowder, the waitress kindly accommodated and more than split the soup for the two of them. When it was time to sing and have cake, we didn't realize they were closing at 7:00 PM, but they didn't rush us out at all. We will certainly be coming back and I hope others support this...
Read moreCame here yesterday at 6:45 just 15 minutes before closing. I enjoyed the fried catfish sandwich and my guest had the lobster roll with corn nuggets and we grabbed a quart of lobster bisque from the fridge. Each sandwich came with fries & coleslaw, the catfish had tartar sauce on the side as well. It was very good, cooked perfectly, packed great. The display was empty because they were closing up in minutes. Restaurant was immaculately clean and all set for the next day. The owners son took care of us and he was very friendly and polite. Pops and his son prepared the food freshly while we waited and mom packed everything up to go. The only reason for 4 stars was I was not able to sit inside and eat so I can't rate the wait and table service. Also all the fresh fish was put away for the night so I did not see their display which im sure is perfect. I'm guessing that would be #5 star but they will be reviewed again and updated to earn it because I will definitely be back. This place is a gem. I would recommend this to anybody looking for a good fish fry. I traveled home for 30 minutes and the food remained warm, that's on me but again eating inside (some day soon) will be the test. For now, this place is good, very good. To be continued!!! For now, go...
Read moreThe most disappointing $47 I have ever spent. Purchased a fried Scallop platter and Sweet Heat shrimp. It was a Grubhub order so, the price was elevated. But, the food was not great. The fried scallops and French fries tasted like they were deep fried in oil that was old. So, it made me feel a little sick. On top of that the scallops didn’t have any real taste except for the old oil taste. The amount of scallops were dwarfed by the amount of French fries. So, it was French fries and scallops platter not, a scallops and French fries platter. The sweet heat shrimp was equally disappointing. The shrimp really had no heat, no spice, and it was only made sweet if you actually dipped it into the honey that was provided. I personally do not like buckwheat honey. It is too strong for dipping so the Flavors did not enhance and blend with each other. As a final note, the lemons I received with my order were brown and not visually appetizing. I feel that this restaurant could do better, unless it is being staffed buy a middle school home economics class that is just learning how to cook and learning how to...
