For the past three months, my family and I have been taking my 95 year-old mother out for a weekly lunch at the Da Capo restaurant in Torrington, Connecticut, but Saturday, November 24th will be the last time we will eat at Da Capo. When we arrived in the early afternoon, we were one of only three groups having lunch. We sat at our usual table at the window, far from other occupied tables and the restroom. Sadly, at the end of our meal, my mother became ill. She was too ill to walk to the restroom, and fortunately no one in the restaurant except the owner and the staff realized she was ill. Immediately the owner began harassing us to take her into the restroom. All of us, including my mother, would have much preferred her to be in the restroom as this was very embarrassing for her, but she was semi-conscious and physically unable to walk there. The few other customers in the restaurant were completely unaware of my mother’s problem, and at no time did they turn to look at my mother, so I ignored the owner’s demands and kept her at our table. Once my mother recovered, I was given a bucket and some towels, and cleaned up the area under our table while my husband walked my mother out to our car. We paid the bill and left. Once my mother was in our car, I went back into the restaurant to speak with the owner and apologize again for my mother. Unfortunately he was still extremely disturbed and simply told me “not to f…ing come back.” My mother and I are sorry that she became ill at Da Capo, but never once did the owner show any compassion or concern, especially considering we were regular loyal customers. We will never go back to Da Capo and will never recommend the restaurant to anyone again. I hope that when you have the occasion to take out your elderly parents or grandparents, you will chose a restaurant where the owner cares about his customers. It is not only...
Read moreMy family and I go to DaCapo when we are celebrating something. Its a nice restaurant with great food, and we have spent a lot of money there in the past. On Sunday, my parents and I went for Father's day. By the time our drinks came, we were all drenched in sweat. It was 85 degrees outside and they said their ACs were broken and the technician was not scheduled to come until the next day. I know for a fact there are HVAC companies that work 24 hours. This is a holiday and many people go out to dinner to celebrate. We could barely finish our food because we were miserable and had the remainder of our meals wrapped. I wouldn't hold it against them that this unforeseen issue happened but they did not do anything to make this right for their customers. Their outdoor dining area was booked so we could not move outside. There were several families around us complaining, and several members of their own waitstaff complaining about how hot it was. They did not get fans to put around the restaurant or open windows for air circulation, or even comp an item off our bill, give us a dessert or voucher or something. I am not looking for hand outs, we are just very disappointed as dinner there is not cheap and if we had known about the issue prior to being seated, we would have been more comfortable eating in our own home or...
Read moreMy family goes to de capo for every birthday. I am plant based and I get the tuscana salad without the cheese and the dressing on the side.. this salad is delicious. Its most notable ingredients are artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, and most yum of all, it features fried polenta as croutons! The dressing is a white balsamic vinegarette and it's delicious. I am generally super full after salad but if I have to eat something else I order the eggplant and pasta. Which is good. It's definitely never rubbery and ive never been dissatisfied with the food. I have been less than a fan of the service though. The boys that work here are fine. The kid with the nice fro is very kind and polite and helpful and on the ball. The female employees are not up to par with my customer service standards. I have studied and competed in business competition and have ample experience in the field as I have been employed as a retail manager and as customer experience manager for many years and pride myself on being extremely familiar with what Is exceptional service in a restaurant/hotel/shop... Overall good place for a family style...
