TLDR; service was awful but the food is good.
It pains me to write this review, because I've been coming here for many years. COVID has ruined so many things which is truly heartbreaking. I understand the world is shortstaffed and wait times can be long, but that does not excuse poor service.
Our waitress (believe the name was Ryleigh on the receipt) had zero people skills. She seemed young so she has a lot to learn. Never asked us for drink refills at any time & she would walk away hastily every time, so my husband had to get her attention to return to the table multiple times. The dining room was unfortunately closed, so we weren't able to enjoy the cozy atmosphere that it brings. Instead, we were seated in the hall where they serve the buffet. I feel like I'm eating at a truck stop every time I'm in that room. We didn't want the buffet since we can never eat enough to justify the price. Our waitress told us it was $16.99 for the buffet, turns out it was actually $25.99 tonight. The waitress begrudgingly gave us menus after promptly telling us "we're really trying to push the buffet tonight".
I wasn't even finished eating when she brought us the bill. About 2 minutes later she came back and asked if we were ready to pay. Um, no?! We felt extremely rushed like we were an inconvenience. We were only there for 40-45 minutes before we left. This was the first night out for my husband & I in almost a year (have a little one); we were really looking forward to a nice date night -- it was awful and utterly disappointing.
My king cut prime rib was about 85% fat. The small amount of meat I was able to eat was very good. Slightly overcooked; asked for rare and it came out medium rare, but that's not the end of the world. My husband said his ribeye was flavorful. So, complements to the chef! Thank you!
I'll be sure to ask if the dining room is open before we return. For now, I will fondly look back on the memories of the way...
Read moreI have eaten steaks at Castle Hill before and enjoyed them. This Friday night at 5P, I was thoroughly disappointed. As usual, I ordered the Rib Eye (10oz) Medium doneness. It was the server Sheena's second night and she did a terrific job. It was not very busy and most guests opted for the Friday night Buffet on the other side of the building. I did order buttered mushrooms as an after thought 10 minutes after my steak order went in; they did not come with the steak and were not completely cooked. For an extra $3.95, this was not a good value. For $21.95, the price was fairly expensive. The meal did include soup or salad and a potato choice. The Clam Chowder was alright. The steak was not. I am not the type of person to complain and attempted to make due with the steak. However, after eating the sections that were cooked, I decided to send the raw portions back. I had cut these into pieces in order to check, the pieces were all raw and left blood pooling on the plate. Sheena graciously took my plate, and returned 10-15 minutes later after the cook re-fired them, this time cooking them properly. It is amazing how much flavor a ribeye has when it's actually cooked and has been browned. The fact that they didn't cook a new steak was a bit disheartening. Sheen did offer me 'Prime Rib' but I was full from the potato. The problem I had was not so much the raw steak as how they handled it. There was no offer of a discount or anything else to make it right. I was hurried off and felt bad for speaking up. I will never return to the Castle Hill Supper Club as I feel their prices are too high for a place that utilizes untrained cooks rather than...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Castle Hill. I went to the cash bar in the reception hall to ask about seating for dinner. I was the first to the bar, and waited to be served, my two friends each came to the bar, another customer arrived, the three of them were served, and I was the last one to be served. I bought two bottles of beer on an open tab. ($3.50 each) I was able to ask for a table for three in the dining room, and moved to the other end of the building. I confirmed our table and let the hostess know that we would wait at the bar for our table. I bought two more beers ($3.75 each). We all ordered the Prime Rib. 12 oz, 18 oz, and the 24oz. All of the steaks were cooked to order. We all agreed that these were some of the best Prime Rib we have had. I had ordered the vegetable and it was so over cooked, it was inedible. Laurie, our waitress, was very short with me. She told me that the ice water comes with ice and that is just the way it is. Then proceeded to refill my water glass from the side of the pitcher, dumping more ice into my glass. She went to extended length, to over explain how to fill out the credit card slip. The prices are in the $25-$35 range for the Prime Rib and one side. Mushrooms are $3.95. You get a $0.25 discount on a bottle of beer if you crash a wedding reception. Overall, my dining experience was very good. I will try this place again and see if there is any...
