Top Deck Restaurant at Gordon Lodge — Restaurant in Town of Baileys Harbor

The food is decent - although needs an uplift. We ordered Brussel sprout “chips” and they were huge brussel sprouts cut in half that were super hard to bite through. The service is what is really awful. We have been coming here for 13 years and it’s sadly a disservice to see the entitled kids they have working here now. They are charging a decent amount for their food but the service seems like you were at McDonald’s. We sat down and no one came to talk to us for 15 to 20 minutes. I finally stopped one of the waitresses and asked if she could find out who our waiter was. She looked at me annoyed and then came back and said I guess it’s me. After that the service was all right but halfway through I took my daughter to the bathroom and told the waitress we would be right back. She still didn’t bring the dessert so that was still left and my daughter wasn’t finished eating her food either. I also had my husband to go box on the table with food I ordered for him. When we came back a minute later our table was completely cleared and they were making room for a larger table and looked at me and said we thought you were done. We didn’t even get her dessert yet and my daughters personal toys were taken off the table! There is no apology other than sorry people leave all the time . They acted like we were inconveniencing them. I asked to talk to the manager and she was just as rude. I then went to the front desk and they didn’t seem to care either. I guess this is just the new way of entitled kids expecting a tip. If you really must go there because you love it great but expect horrible service and to be treated like you are nothing. I’m kinda bummed and hate to even post a bad review, but my hopes it to help them better from this experience. I was so so excited to surprise mom with a nice dinner in celebrating her being cancer free and a birthday. We had a wait which was expected so we stopped at the bar. We waited maybe ten, fifteen minutes and saw he was very busy at the time. Being that he never said anything like, I’ll be right with you we decided to walk around and take in the nice scene outside. After about thirty minutes we came back in sat at the bar and again not once was told, hi I’ll be with you in a few minutes. Again, I saw how busy he was and do understand the short staff but any recognition of I see you would have made us feel welcome. Even if he could had had a manager come help. After the ten minutes with no hi I actually asked mom if we should go somewhere else. At that time he told some woman to help us and got us drinks. I put my card down and the bartender immediately ran it and looked at my tip right after, but never thanked us. I did tip 3 on our drinks because I know he was busy and was not going to not tip. We got seated and watched him immediately help two young girls right away. Again, I don’t want to bash when I do realize everyone is short staffed and did see he was busy, but I truly did not feel welcomed. ☹️ And slightly a slap in the face after helping the next two immediately. Everything at Top Deck is top notch. The service, bartenders, and staff are second to none. I always appreciate how they engage in conversation but even mor, you can tell they are truly genuine in their exchange. I love to be able to come in as a guest who may not be staying on grounds as it is such a private and peaceful location. This is always my place to bring out of town guests as the view is perfect and makes you feel as if you are on a ship.

The attention to their drinks is much appreciated, especially their Old Fashioned! Rumor has it, they serve up a mean bloody as well. I never eat fish and love their Walleye. Any good fish shouldn’t taste fishy, so the Chef certainly knows what he is doing in choosing and preparing fish. I even chose it for our upcoming wedding at Gordon Lodge.
