This was, by far, the WORST dining experience I have had in the Hayward area.
My wife and I split the “Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon” with bourbon orange glaze. It arrived from the kitchen lukewarm. My wife tried a small forkful and immediately pushed her plate away. Then I tried a piece and I understood why she refused to eat any more. It was terrible; or, to use her word in describing the salmon as we were driving home, “horrible.” Normally, properly prepared salmon will “flake off” a section at a time. Not this stuff. It was tough and tasteless like it had been sitting around since the last Ice Age.
At some point in time the waitress appeared and we handed her back essentially the entire meal she had brought to us from the kitchen. She asked if we wanted a “to go” box, but we declined. One might expect that upon seeing that virtually the entire meal had been rejected by her customers a waitress would ask if there might be something wrong. Not this one. She either had no clue or simply didn’t care. I should say that we did not send the baked potato back. Why? Because although it was supposed to come with the meal, the waitress never even bothered to bring it to us.
I was then presented with a bill in excess of $31. The charge for the salmon was $18.95. The extra salad plate was $9.98 or so. The balance was sales tax. Our only beverages were water. I placed two $20 bills onto the billing tray, after which the waitress had the audacity to ask if we wanted change. I will admit that I did not leave the waitress a tip. She simply didn’t deserve one.
My wife and I drove a round trip of about 90 miles for this “dining” experience. Needless to say, we wouldn’t walk across the street to visit this place again.
We eat out a lot, perhaps more than we should. We know the difference between a good meal and a bad meal. The terrible salmon consumed much of our conversation on our 45-mile trip home. So, I called the owner of Trailways Inn and told him of our experience. His main concern was why we didn’t say something to him while at his eatery as opposed to calling him later. The reason for this, I told him, was because I am not fond of making a scene in front of the 10 other people in our dinner party. I don’t think he understood what I was trying to tell him. He never uttered one syllable of contrition or suggested that perhaps he could make things right for us. In our minds, he had our money and it was now his. Period.
They say that word of mouth is the best advertising. The opposite...

We entered and the owner greeted us and took us to a table. We requested a different table that was easier for conversing. He quickly cleaned it off and reseated us.
The menu has a nice variety including daily specials. I ordered the special quarter chicken with spaghetti, and my mom ordered the Reuben. Both were delicious.
The chicken was deep fried an it was so different than anything I've ever had before. The breading was more than crispy, it was cracker-crispety-crunchy. I loved it! The chicken was moist and the breading wasn't overly salty, a reason I usually avoid fried chicken.
The spaghetti side was generous. The pasta was perfectly Al Dente. The sauce was thick and coated the pasta well. I don't know that it's made from scratch there, but it tasted like it was - deep tomato flavor.
I sampled the fries that came with my mom's sandwich. They were large, thick steak fries -my favorite kind of fries! I rarely eat fries, but I find steak fries irresistible. These were lightly salted, perfect for my taste.
My mom said her Reuben was delicious.
The waitress was friendly and seemed very experienced. I'll never be able to carry plates stacked up on my...

I am sorry that you disagree with the time but I make sure to make it as accurate as possible when doing reviews. We understand you are short staffed but the way we were treated by that staff was not appropriate. After sitting for 30 minutes the server came to the table with appetizers which were good and that time was good. But when a member of the our 6 adults and 2 kids under 7 years old group said, "We are ready to order" the response from the server was, "Well I am not" and walked off. I write the reviews to places based on my expieriance. Taking a little responsibility for the service would be appriciated. First Review: This place had good reviews but was very disappointed. Both bartender and sever seemed tired and wore out. Server was short and came off disrespectful. They had open tables when we were seated. We were there for about total of 2 and a half hours. We wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but after waiting for our order for over 2 hours we had to leave. With to little kids we could not wait for food any longer. There were 15 tables sat, severd, finished thier meals, and left in the time we sat there and did not...
