Shawano's Cafe — Restaurant in Town of Belle Plaine

My family stopped here while we were traveling back from camping over the weekend. The pictures online looked appetizing and we thought we’d give it a try. We ordered take out, I asked what kind of pies you guys had today, the girl on the phone seemed annoyed, she rambled a bunch of pies off and I said I’m sorry, but could you tell me again? She let out the biggest sigh ever and then began to list them off, I stopped her 2 pie names in and said forget it. I don’t want anything else. I don’t do well with rude people, so it was best we just ended the conversation.

We ordered gyros and fries, she told us (I think her name was Megan, could be wrong. But that’s who rang up our receipt) it would be a 20-25 minute wait. No problem. We got our food right at 20 minutes. COLD, absolutely cold to the touch, funny thing is though our pickle that comes on the side was burning hot?! The gyro meat was cold, the fries were soggy and cold. We didn’t even eat our fries and choked down our gyro. We are so disappointed. From the rude girl on the phone who seemed to hate her job, to the cold and soggy food. We won’t be back. And definitely not $28 worth of food we could barely eat. Do better next...

When we were seated, asked what we would like to drink, and my friend asked, "what do you have", the response was, "It's on the back of the menu".

My sister asked about any recommendations, and she wasn't very helpful but asked if she saw the specials "on the way in".

When asked if the check could be split, our server said, "I tried to ask about that, but y'all were talking, talking, and talking."

My sister and her friend were talking in the middle of a serious conversation, and when she had come up, she had only asked about dessert, for which I said, "No, thanks." She proceeded to roll her eyes and walked away.

She was pregnant, so perhaps she was really having a very bad day. But the restaurant wasn't busy. Very unpleasant visit.

DO NOT RECOMMEND.

The chicken was dry, fries were cold. My beef tips/ mashed potatoes were decent.

On checking out, the cashier asked how our visit was and heard our experience. She said, "Unfortunately, it happens a lot (with her)." On a lighter note, there was a nice male server that did...

Went there tonight, ordered food.. my gf asked for no cheese, her sandwich came with cheese, she was a good sport about it. I asked for no peppers.. I HATE peppers. My sandwich came with peppers. Asked if I could please get no peppers.. she said "oh shoot I forgot to put that" when sandwich returned could tell they just picked peppers off since 1) there was still peppers on it and 2) if you know anything about peppers it makes whole meal taste like peppers.. this is all after we Herd the bell in kitchen 3 or 4x go off signaling to server our food was done..(we were only table in there waiting for food) Even seen other server signal to our server that our food was up but she was to worried about getting her side work done.. Def not going back anytime soon.. my daughter n I would go every Tuesday in-between dance classes of hers.. server was huge ball of "entitled bad energy" sorry to be blunt but us as a family never get to get out to eat together cause...
