Spider Lake Saloon & Grill — Restaurant in Town of Birchwood

Call first to find out who is bar tending! Really BAD this visit... 2 years ago some friends turned me on to this place while riding ATV's. We had a really good time. Not knowing the names of the owners I will refer to them as He and She. 2 years ago He was bar tending and in my and the opinion of our group had a good experience at the bar. So much so that I was telling all my friends about Spider Lake Saloon and the Great Bloody Mary's. In fact on this trip (Thurs Oct 1 2015) it was our first stop so I could turn the new ones in the group on to SLS.

This time she was working the bar... Wow what a disappointment, She was very Rude and Crude. When we first arrive I had went in to the restroom, while in there someone from the group had ordered me a Bloody Mary. She was yelling at me while in the bathroom asking me what I wanted for a chaser. " Geeeze just hold on a sec". So then she started in about how great there BM's were and how there was no other like it and they had a guarantee and if we didn't like it then she would drink it and we would still pay for it. So I'm about 3/4 through with my BM and she walks straight up to me and says " So can I have my bloody mary back?" I had no Idea what the woman was talking about. She said I told you if you didn't like it I would take it back. I said lady what are you talking about? I am the one that brought the group here in the first place. I am the one that has been bragging about your Bloody Marys for the past 2 Years.

My friends From Winter WI told her that we were visiting from Iowa so we had driven 350 Miles to visit and enjoy the trails. It only took about 60 Seconds for her to start ragging on Iowan's, No not the little bar jokes about the folks from the adjoining state. Iowan's are the worst! The worst people on the trails she says. We don't follow the rules, We have no Manners she says, We don't even follow or obey signs. By this time most if not all the group had just gotten up and walked out. She says to me Uh where did everyone go. I said "Really".

Outside they all told me they left because they had enough of her BS.

I must beg to differ with the last review in many aspects. My family has been going to the Spider Lake Bar/Saloon for over 30 years and yes the atmosphere has changed some; mostly because it has changed owners three times in that period. The present owners have a FUN and OPEN attitude to families coming in and treat children and parents as they themselves would like to be treated in a place like theirs. As a post note children should not be sitting at the bar and I do believe there is a regulation on that!

I have and will continue to recommend Spider Lake Saloon to friends and family and...

Rode in yesterday on side x sides with our good friends from our Gordon/Solon Springs starting point...over to Clam lake, Glidden, Park Falls(overnight) then onto the Tuscobia to Birchwood area....ran into a young newlywed (1 week)couple on machine's that led the way to this awesome spot!!! Kudos to couple!! And thanks to the owners for the great conversation, drinks, we will definitely be back!! 300 miles in 16 hrs.in the rain, snow flurries, sunshine and 36-44 degrees both day's this was a nice stop to warm up before getting on our way to the Wild River's Trail and back home.
