A local couple recommended the Silver Birch and we met them there for dinner. Chris, greeted us with a smile when we walked in, she was very personable and welcoming - she was a pleasure to talk to, only learning later that she has been the owner for the last 10 years. The Silver Birch is located on the shores of Half Moon Lake, just a short drive from Tomahawk, a mile or so from Hwy 8 on U. If you are traveling on Hwy 51, take the Hwy 8 Exit to Cty Rd U - very easy access. The bar and outside dining overlook the lake, just steps from the bar, a partition separates the intimate and charming dining area. I am guessing the bar accommodates 10-12 and the dining area seats around 30 - I am sure a reservation would be a good idea for any holiday or typically busy evening. Although our wait staff person was training, both were personable, prompt and attentive - never intrusive. Our orders were handled efficiently from beginning to end; beverage orders, appetizers, soup and salad, and entree's - the bread sticks are excellent and the house salad was well prepared and presented. Our entrees were well prepared and presented with a small orchid - very nice. If you are looking for a hoity toity restaurant - this is not the place for you - it's a casual Northwood's dining experience, prepared by great people from a great community, in a charming atmosphere and wonderful lakeside setting - I think this is the place you'd take your date for Prom or Homecoming, where you'd celebrate family birthdays and anniversaries and special events - it has an iconic history in the community and people's memories. I believe you will create some wonderful memories of your own if stop by and dine at the Silver Birch. Personable service, excellent food, lakeside location, charming atmosphere - I'd definitely recommend that you give them a...
Read moreMy wife and I were servers and we are currently business owners. So we're pretty critical when it comes to places. At least knowing what the possibilities for customer service and quality food can be. This place knocks it out of the park!
The staff are extremely friendly and provide excellent service. Even when the place is fairly busy. They hit all the of the stops when it comes to being a server.
Their old fashioned and coconut rum drink were both perfect! The bread sticks were delicious and fresh. We brought our twin 16 month old girls. Most servers seem to not like seeing younger kids. Our server was excellent help with them and got them finger food fast. They also rushed their meals to keep them busy. The girls chicken fingers and fries were above and beyond what I expected for taste. They have to be fresh.
I ordered the walleye cajun seasoned. My one con, for myself, is being that it was grilled. I did expect it to be a little more grilled, like crispy. It was kind of watery. My wife's steak was great though!
I also ordered a grasshopper for dessert. Another excellent choice! All in all, this place is a must go to for the area! I would definitely return. One happy and overly stuffed customer from wanting to try everything, and finish it, because it...
Read moreMy family has been coming here throughout the years. For many years it was our favorite restaurant in the north woods. Though the past several times we have been in the last year, the quality has continued to slip. The food quality feels like it has gone from exquisite to high priced fairly standard faire. Not that we are disappointed in the food, just not impressed either. The tipping point of us and our family’s choice not to return again was after the main hostess approached and started kicking us out all but 5-10 minutes after our last bite. We were still finishing drinks. She claimed it was to “make room for other people”. The bar was more than half empty and she could have just as easily asked us if we were willing to bring our conversation to the bar. Instead of insisting that we leave. This was also quite odd seeing as how she just had spent the past half hour talking to the table beside us who was also finished well before we were even and they still hadn’t even made efforts to leave by the time she asked us to. This made for quite an...
