Hillside Fish House — Restaurant in Town of Buffalo

I try not to write reviews on places that I’ve been to only once so I’ve given this place a few attempts to try and impress me and I can tell you I was not impressed. Although the food was definitely above average and tasted good, the service and owner of the bar is what’s going to be the reason why I never come back. For starters, the last time I was at the restaurant I was sitting at the bar and I overheard one of the waitresses in the back talking about some girl who had recently posted a video of her Crying in a car before taking her life. She was a mother of three and fairly young if I remember correctly. She was in the back talking to I’m guessing the kitchen staff or maybe there is a break room back there but I could overhear her talking about how she used to be pretty when she was younger, but In the video she looked fat and ugly and that’s probably why she killed herself. This statement made me absolute sick to my stomach and I left immediately. I don’t have to go into detail about how absolutely horrible of a statement that waitress made. The time before that I came in and some older guy wearing flip-flops was behind the bar. First of all that’s absolutely disgusting to have open feet like that in a bar and a restaurant but I believe this guy is the owner and is named Tony. He was obviously drunk as he was stumbling as he was reaching for bottles behind the bar pouring himself a drink. Not only that, but he was very rude and passive aggressive to the male bartender who was there at the time. He even made a statement to him saying that women don’t belong behind the bar and that they are only good for serving food. What a sexist statement to make! I can honestly say that I will not be attending a third time if this is how the owner and the staff conduct themselves when they think nobody...

I'd like to start this by saying that we have eaten here many many times in the past. We've always been more than satisfied with our meal it's always been amazing and the service great. Tonight we made a reservation for 6:30 I ordered pan-fried scallops and my husband ordered the seafood platter. My scallops came out slimy and wet and they tasted like raw flour. The light batter was all on the plate instead of on my seafood. When our meals were brought out we were told that our plates were extremely hot which means they'd been in the warming tray / steamer for god-knows-how-long. Which is what caused the scallops to get slimy and wet. I when I told the waitress this oh, she came back with well I was advised that you shouldn't order them pan-fried because they don't come out good, which is incorrect. They always come out delicious every other time we've been there. I'm not sure what happened tonight but I don't know that I'll be back I left with no meal at all. I was asked if I wanted the scallops that were already on my plate recooked and when I said no my meal was taken and I left with nothing. So absolutely disappointed.

Edit to update: today I received a message on Facebook from our waitress, they absolutely owned the mistake and made it right. And that I can respect. We will definitely give this place another try, as it has been one of our favorites for years. Thank you so much for the hillside fish house for owning it and making it right. We appreciate that more than...

Usually this place is one of the best in the area.... We stopped in on a Monday night with reservation at 5:30pm. The place was not very busy, but everything seemed to take a long time. Our server had a few issues, but in her defense was very nice. The scallop appetizer was delicious. We all ordered different items. The ribeye was cooked good, but no flavor or seasoning! The other steak ordered at our table was horrible, but we didn't want to say anything because everything was a mess. The jumbo battered shrimp were wonderful. The cod was just ok, a little greasy. My wives salad had a hair in it... The cajun shrimp appetizer was not good at all, but the waitress took it off the bill which was nice of her to do. We never asked for that or even complained for that matter. She just noticed we didn't eat any of it. We all thought they just had a bad night. Every business has one or is entitled to a bad service once in a while... Maybe the main cooks were off after a busy weekend being it was a Monday. But something was clearly off at this place that it usually known to be one of the best around. We hope it was a fluke because we have been coming here for decades.... Three stars is even a bit of a stretch...
