Gunsmoke Country Grill — Restaurant in Town of Caledonia

Everything about this place is great. We needed to stop for lunch while on the road, and it was directly on our way with plenty of parking. We popped in and were told we could seat ourselves. The first thing I noticed was how clean everything was. From the floors and windows to the condiments and their places on the tables. A trip to the restroom was even more confirmation. Not only was it spacious, but there was a grab bar beside the toilet and again everything was quite clean and well cared for. (Also of note, as a female who happened to be traveling - the feminine product offerings in a basket were an appreciated thoughtful touch) Our service was wonderful. The meals that we ordered (Rodeo Burger and Dagwood Sandwich were both delicious and prepared so quickly. They had plenty of options on their menu for both breakfast and lunch. Everytime.I have been there the food left much to be desired. The fish fry haddock was disgusting, fresh haddock doesnt smell like lake ontario beach, after an alewife die off. Chances are that fish has been frozen and thawed many, many times before its served. The salad was room temperature and wilted I wouldnt eat anything that wasn't cooked, french fries might be a safe bet if they cleaned the fryer recently. Mostly an older crowd and farmers, or snowmobile riders in the winter. Seem to be at the same capacity as pre covid, so if that's a concern I wouldnt visit since it's a small dining area. There is a significant staff turnover so that may be what is affecting...

First time here. Just me and two kids. There is a disconnect in the name and the atmosphere. If there's a expectation of a cowboy/country interior, you'll be disappointed! It's more clean-cut, modern and simple. I think there is room to capitalize on this expectation that would make it a more popular place.

Its does have a very tight knit family feel, a place where everyone knows everyone. Staff was very nice and attentive. I will most likely go back and try other foods. No complaints about the food, I'd say it's normal family diner...
