You'd never expect to find ANY sort of business out this way. From any direction, you drive across miles of sparsely-inhabited roads to find the Welch Cabin. But once you find it, a glowing beacon of neon and woodwork, you can breathe easy and relax into a warm, casual evening of food and drink.
Rustic, low-key, and rough-around-the-edges in all the right ways, the Welch Cabin is punctuated by a woodstove in the winter and a large deck in the summer. This is a great place to come for a meal or just to meet for a drink. Currently the bar is open for dinner hours during the week, and for lunch & dinner on weekends, but closed on Tuesdays. The waitstaff is warm and friendly, and the typical patrons are long-time locals. You'll find couples seated in the corners, whole families gathered around one of the large 8-top tables, and at the bar you'll find groups of friends who seem to be regular fixtures.
The menu is typical pub fare with the addition of a nice specials board. The Cabin is famous for "Sizzling Steaks," served on hot iron skillets and making all kinds of a racket as they come out of the kitchen to your table. I've found nirvana in their "honey-hot" chicken wings, ordered well-done. Vegetarians may be a little hard-pressed to find something filling, but I wouldn't really hold the Cabin accountable to satiate a vegetarian palate. It's just not that kind of place.
One other thing worth noting: the Welch Cabin is one of the few places in this area to have Guinness on tap. I have sampled draft Guinness at several bars nationwide and find that its quality can vary significantly from bar to bar. The Guinness at Welch's is wonderful. ...
Read moreI had occasion to return to The Cabin at the Manager’s request after my written review identifying poor service.
The food was perfect as always and to my surprise the service had returned in full gala. As it turns out my original comments were on target and the new management corrected the problem immediately.
Thank God for the smart new managers and owners. Now if they put in a cappuccino machine, I would be there three nights a week. I am happy to have my old place back

I had a bad experience recently. Not with the food but the lack of service. This was my first time there when Matt wasn’t working the bar. He is the best.
I entered on a slow night, sat at the bar and waited over 10 minutes while the women working there finally waited on me but only after I asked “Is anyone working the bar “. She spent all her time entering information into the electronic cash regrister and ignored her service obligations.
The lack of service continued and I had to call out for everything I needed ie drink refill, sperate plate, after dinner drink, etc. she never removed my dirty plates even after I had finished the chicken wings for an appetizer, and than a steak for dinner.
I left her a tip, not for her service but because I like the previous owners. If the new owners want to improve the performance here, they need to do more than add credit...
Read moreI was so happy to hear The Cabin reopened with a menu that was similar to the original. We had the cheese quesadilla with chicken as an appetizer and it was very good. I was sorry that I didn’t remember to take pictures of our entrees until I had devoured half of it. I had the pulled pork with sweet potato fries it was very good. My husband had the bacon blue burger with tater tots. It had just the right amount of real blue cheese and he said it was cooked to perfection. He ordered medium rare and it was just the right amount of red in the center. The service was very good. The only criticism I can give is that I would have liked a little more meat on my sandwich and the bun could be elevated as it was a plain hamburger bun. This however, would not keep me from going back again. It was great to see the restaurant reopened and crowded. Obliviously, they are doing something right. Back for the second time. Had Shrimp Basket with sweet potato fries and fried Cod and curly...
