Smokey Sweet BBQ — Restaurant in Town of Canaan

Found this place last year while going ice fishing at Queechy. We kept passing by and figured to stop in one day and have been coming back whenever we can ever since. Their pulled pork sandwiches are amazing and so is there Mac and cheese. Have had a few other things on the menu that are great, such as the BLT sandwich but haven’t tried much else because the pulled pork is so good it’s nearly impossible to not get that. Only downside is they are only open 3 days a week, but it’s well worth waiting ‘till the end of the week to go. The staff if always friendly, which is hard to come by these days. DO NOT BE FOOLED - ITS HORRIBLE!!! My husband & I drive past this place a lot and wanted to give it a try. We love a good BBQ place & the aesthetics are reminiscent of several legitimate southern BBQ joints so we were excited to see it. The menu included hot dogs & hamburgers, but that often goes with grilling and smoking, so no big deal. You can also ONLY order pre-selected 'meals'. I got the ribs with corn bread & my husband got the pulled pork. The ribs were dry, without much sauce. The corn bread was corn meal mush with corn in it. Nasty consistency & entirely too sweet. The pulled pork was dripping and just a clump on nothing, with nothing. And the grand finale? We both spent the next 2 hours in the bathroom with cramps & diarrhea!!! 😩 Never again. The slanted one-star review by Evil Katil unfairly affects the total star rating of this small business. BBQ is a specific type of cuisine, existed long before the gluten free movement. The sign here informing of no gluten free options is a courtesy to inform those who require gluten free that the items on offer won't fulfill their needs; no need to be angry, just move on elsewhere. Except for proper sanitation, this business is not required to cater to every dietary requirement. The service is excellent, the food is delicious, the atmosphere is comfy, and the price is right.
