Osprey Public House — Restaurant in Town of Cape Vincent

With our first meal, the chef has impressed my wife and I as one of the best in the north country and one not to be missed. His menu choices shows his past experience cooking in the South, and the quality and detail of his dishes indicates how excellent his skills are. Never had Grilled Gem Caesar salad before and it was delicious. Then the night’s special of panko crusted Walleye Pike with basmati rice along with the grilled corn and crab meat topping was excellent! My wife started with the perch and corn chowder soup and then southern style shrimp and grits. We are from Houston, Tx and her meal was as good as any we have ever had in the south. We are anxious to come back and try some other choices. A few more quality wine choices would be nice and maybe some seat pads for the metal dining chairs. The interior of the restaurant has changed dramatically for the good since the remodel, but the exterior on the entry side of the restaurant needs some attention. Overgrown bushes, trees and weeds are not at all attractive, so some weeding, trimming and adding some attractive, well appointed perennials and mulch would make this a much more comfortable and inviting entrance. Well where should I begin. We ate there several weeks ago and the service was great while the food was delicious. This evening began with a class of soda that fell into my friend’s lap, it was truly an accident. Cleaned up the mess and ordered. One hour later the food was brought to our table. The very nice server apologized for the length of time which was definitely too long. The sandwich was delicious but the french fries were cold. The wonderful server brought a plate of hot fries for the two orders that were cold. One person in our party ordered a veggie pizza that came with pepperoni and bacon. Hmmmmm. Finally we were confused with the table side check out. A glass of soda on a lap, a longer than usual wait time for dinner, cold fries, veggie pizza with meat and no comps or no discount. Sad because that was our new go to place to eat...

5 of us arrived on a Thursday night and were seated immediately. There was quite a bit of seating available.

The bar area has quite a few TVs, too.

They are in the process of switching menus so they were out of a handful of things, but there was still plenty to choose from.

They had a lot of specials including a $7 burger! My dad said he really enjoyed the burger which came with fries.

I had the Perch Tacos which came with rice and beans. The tacos were delicious and very flavorful. However, the filet of fish in each taco was SMALL. Like, you will not be full after eating them. (At least they were yummy).

Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food.

The waitress was very nice. Our drinks were not refilled super fast but she seemed to be the only waitress working.
