Laissez les bons temps rouler (Let the good times roll!) In the wee hamlet of Barker, NY, who would expect to find cooked-from-scratch Cajun cuisine that transports your spirit straight to the parishes of Louisiana? Talk about lagniappe! Since opening in May 2025, Mark and Amy have shown they truly know Cajun cooking. The gumbo, crawfish Ă©touffĂ©e, jambalaya, grits—every dish bursts with deep, soulful flavor that speaks of time, care, and tradition. My two food loves are soul food and Cajun—and this diner is the real deal. Worth a stop. Worth a special trip. You will absolutely not be disappointed.

DO NIT EAT HERE!!! First of all their customer service sucks!!!! Their food is not Cajun and they skimp you on the ingredients! I called back and told them that I had no meat in my gumbo. She went back and fourth with me about it being a soup. I spent over 50 dollars in there and for me, customer service is huge! I saw a roach in the wall near the kitchen. This place is a hole in the wall! Their food had NO FLAVOR AT ALL! RO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! Does this look like gumbo?

First time ordering from here. The staff was VERY friendly and extremely nice. I have to say I am very impressed with the food. It was very good !! The seasoning was perfect for my taste. I will definitely go back for more. I would go more often unfortunately it is about a 20 or 30 minute drive for me. Please open up a spot in the southtowns there is nothing out here like your restaurant !!!!

Good doesn't begin to describe the food here, and the amount you get is pretty crazy. A few years ago I found this place when everything else was shut down, and I'm so glad I did.

The catfish is fantastic. A simple cornmeal breading gives it a crispy bite with a tender and flaky interior, and the thin ends of the filets curl and brown in the oil, creating a nice crunchy treat.

The red beans and rice are tender without being starchy, with just the right amount of green onion on top to give it that kick.

The sausage in the jambalaya stands up to the heavy flavors and is a standout on its own.

The grits are creamy and buttery.

All of these are customizable with shrimp and other toppings that bring them from simple, but still delicious, dishes to fantastic fare that you'll only share because there's too much to eat on your own.

And that's not all. Those were just the gluten free options. There's still crawfish etouffee, gumbo and cornbread. While I haven't had the pleasure of trying them, my family has and they tell me that all of it is just as good as the rest of menu.

I know that this review is verbose, but if you take the time to visit this little gem tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, you'll quickly discover just why I can't shut...

Seasoning Lovers Beware: Imitation Louisiana Cooking

Technically true advertising considering the recipes used, but the food tastes as though it's either cooked by people who have not had actual food in Louisiana, or they've maybe adjusted the recipes to accommodate what they perceive as a can't take spice WNY audience?

Ordered the Red Beans and Rice, Gumbo and Cornbread. The sausage is the star of the show because it's where all of the flavor is, but you only get a few pieces of it. Once it's gone you're left with barely seasoned red beans that don't have any sauce/gravy that you're accustomed to with this recipe, and the rice can't carry that. The gumbo was bland as well. We could absolutely eat it but none of the typical spices were used, or they were used in severe moderation.

I think I may have had a higher estimation of this food if I hadn't traveled to New Orleans last year and had a week of Red beans and rice and gumbo all around the city. If you love food that is well seasoned, this is not it. Or maybe order extra sausage so you can have spice with every bite. I am assuming they are just buying the sausage and cooking it, whatever brand it...

Stopped by for a "snack" because we already had dinner plans. Our first time here in the cozy restaurant. We did not even know this place existed. We were greeted by one of the owners and she understood we were not there for a full meal. She split our shrimp po'boy on two separate plates because she knew we were sharing. The po'boy was delicious...the bread, the shrimp, the coleslaw and remoulade sauce were fresh and tasty. Our side order of cornbread was delicious as well. The other owner brought us a taste of their crawfish etoufeé which had a rich, deep, flavor. There were two other couples eating and I heard both comment on how good the food was. I wish we didn't live 5 hours away, as this would be a restaurant I would love...
