Casual restaurant with upscale pricing (a bit of a mismatch). They're known for their steaks and they do a great job seasoning and getting the temp right every time. The banana pepper soup is tasty but a measly portion. You get your choice of a twice baked sweet potato or baked potato, or fries. You can't substitute the type of fries or something in place of a potato...so annoying when you're paying $50+ for your meal. Even if you ask or offer to pay more, the wait staff refuses. Is it really that hard to throw another type of frozen potato into the fryer or upcharge for a side salad instead. The baked potato and sweet potato are enormous. Unfortunately, quantity does not compensate for quality in this case. Whatever they add in to the "twice baked" part makes the filling so dry and taste like chalk paste. It is not fluffy or cheesy. The sweet potato tastes like they add synthetic sweetner because it leaves an unpleasantly fake, sweet after taste. It would be nice to be offered a simple baked potato or sweet potato. I dread seeing the potato on my plate. The stuffed hot peppers used to be huge with a lot of flavorful stuffing. After the restaurant changed ownership, the peppers have been so small, red, and not properly stuffed. This indicates the hungarian peppers are too ripe and they're skimping on the filling. Very disappointing for two peppers at $17 an order. The "garlic bread" that comes with steaks and the peppers is frivolous filler that is drenched in oil, sliced too thin, and tastes like old bread. There's not even real butter or garlic on it. All that being said, if you order anything else but a steak here, it's not worth it. Not the sides, not the apps, not the other entrees and not the specials (e.g. ordered the king crab app once and woah was it salty and over cooked. $75 completely wasted). Stick to the steak, I promise. I don't choose to go here, the family does. We are fortunate enough to be able to afford going out. The pricing here does not match the quality of menu items. Neither the previous ownership nor new ownership have impressed me. I do wish them the...
Read moreWow what a surprise! I have been in the Buffalo area all my life and consider us to be a bit of steak snobs. This place was not on our radar until someone on a flight told my boyfriend it was his favorite steak place. I don't think we would ever have gone otherwise. I really thought this was outstanding steak. I know everyone says get blackened and we did, but, I probably would have preferred the steak plain. Nevertheless it was suburb. It was cooked perfect temperature. We both like rare, and it was great steak. The potato I had and especially the twice-baked my boyfriend had was so outrageously huge. Definitely more potato than you would need to have with your meal but you can't complain about getting extra. Our one suggestion would be that when having specials it would have been nice to have some flexibility in wine choice. Perhaps if we didn't want the house red to offer the house red OR $10 off any other bottle. Something like that. It would seem a benefit to the restaurant to allow an upgrade to better wine. By the way the house was not bad at all but we actually had one of our favorites on the menu that we really wanted to upgrade to. One thing I do like at high-end Steakhouse is to get a choice of sides we normally like mushrooms or creamed spinach. I feel the choices of soup or salad and choice of potato kind of remind me of a diner or economy type restaurant. I guess it's probably just me. I think this place has been doing things their way and doing it well for a very long time and I'm sure my suggestions are unnecessary but just my thoughts after being at so many high-end steak houses. Suggestions aside this place still deserves a 5-star for what it is. I only wish I had remembered to take a picture of that outrageously enormous potato. It was...
Read moreMy dinner at Kennedy's Cove was alright, but definitely not worth the money... or the sore knees.
Our meal started strong with an excellent appetizer: bourbon BBQ bacon. It was seasoned well and cooked to perfection, setting our expectations high. Sadly, it went downhill from there. My wife's veal was passable. However, the salads lacked any character while the twice baked potatoes were surprisingly bland and a bit dry. As if to make up for the lack of flavor, my salmon steak was saturated with pepper; I had to use the sauces they provided just to make the dish edible.
My biggest complaint, however, was the space. It's clear the owners try hard to create a great atmosphere. The tank full of exotic fish is a great touch, but I feel they blocked out a little too much of the natural light. The worst, though, was how tightly packed the tables were. I had to sit extremely close to the table in order to leave room for other diners and to comfortably reach my plate; I spent the whole time trying to keep my legs from falling asleep. Mind you, I'm only 6-foot tall, so being that cramped is quite rare for me.
As for the service, they were very attentive. Our particular server, struggled to answer our questions but was patient with us. Also, I could tell that the rest of the staff was more experienced and skilled.
Overall, I don't feel this restaurant is bad, but it is overrated. I left disappointed, feeling had wasted my...
