I had an opportunity to visit the Golden Russet for breakfast this morning with my wife and in-laws who live nearby. The couple who created the Golden Russet, Jenny and Craig, are owner/operators. The Cafe is recently opened hence the relatively small menu; still, there are enough options - freshly made egg sandwiches to freshly baked muffins and banana bread plus some other items - so that anyone visiting will find something good to eat. The coffee is freshly brewed and really good quality; I noticed they use Fetco equipment which speaks well of their standard of excellence. Jenny was kind enough to brew a fresh pot of decaf for my wife who cannot tolerate too much caffeine. My wife ate one of the egg sandwiches, I had a muffin as did my father in law; all of which was served fresh with a smile and eyes that made contact. I appreciate when people are present and not onto the next thing. The space is light and frsh and aiey with saveral table to accomodate 4 or 5 people; there is also a large community table. The atmosphere is also that. I am a cyclist although not local to this area although I ride up from NJ from time to time; if I were local this is the place I would choose for my coffee stop. There is the community table inside for the cold ride days and outdoor seating for the normal weather days. I expect that over time the Golden Russet will expand their offerings and hours but no matter; if you are within 10km of here please do yourself a favor and stop in. They also have a small grocery section and sell all the daily...

The wife and I were driving through, wanted a quick breakfast found this place, said why not. Typical small town mom and pop kinda joint. Get a hot coffee but was also a general store. Staff knew everyone's name that came through. The very definition of quaint. Wife and I order or food and coffee, we pay... Saw some donuts, said why not.

Best. God. Damn. Donut. I. Have. Ever. Eaten. Period.

It was a Suger coated apple cider infused circle of delicious. It was the sort of moist that makes you think that you bit into a stick of butter. Sugary sweet but not enough to lose the apple flavour. Hands down fantastic.

It gets better folks.

Banana bread on the griddle. I don't know if they used butter or lard, I don't really care if I get heart disease next week, it was amazing and I'll die happy. Warm bread is great, but all toasty and crisp on the outside, and fluffy nutty goodness on the inside sealed in with buttery aroma is out of this world.

Breakfast was great, coffee was great, baked goods were phenomenal, service was great. If you live near by, you probably already know. If you don't, go for a Sunday drive through upstate NY...

I grew up down the street and use to frequent Schultzville deli ( it’s former identity). Since then the deli has changed a few hands till it’s current name the golden russet. First impression was great still retained a lot of its old school appeal and vibes. A lot of it remains the same on the inside a few aesthetic changes that are definitely improvements. Now let’s get to the important part the food! I am a BEC fanatic i have never in all my life seen a bec served on a potato roll but I proceeded with a open mind. Firstly the potato bun is not superior to the tried and true hard roll in-terms of sandwich structure. Secondly for 5.50 I would expect two eggs to be standard. Lastly there choice of hot sauce is odd why not a standard mikes hot or even Tabasco. After seeing the selections of drinks it saddens me to see the lack of run of the mill beverages for this rural location it almost feels like I am in a strange Brooklyn cafe with all the choices of hipster beverages. Wish them the best but will sadly not return as I am not demographic this place will appeal too. RIP to...

Quaint little roadside grocery/diner in the middle of the Hudson Valley. We stopped down after picking fruit at Rosehill farm. It’s great for a nice simple lunch, I.e a grilled cheese, egg sandwich, burger, turkey melt. Simple classics that always hit the spot. I’m sure their specials are also great. The griddle banana bread was really moist and tasty. Chef does add salt to the top, which my wife liked but I pushed off. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Would definitely return if I was in the area. There are some local goods and beverages (alcohol too) to be head. Recommend if you are nearby!

Stopped by for a quick snack off the Taconic, but the spot's charm and Craig's welcoming kitchen vibe convinced us to stay for breakfast. It's like being at home with Craig flipping up breakfast and burgers while chatting with the locals at the counter. A variety of cold and hot beverages, snacks, chips, and cheeses - you won't leave hungry. It's more than just breakfast; it's a heartfelt embrace plated with care. Special shoutout to Craig for those incredible chips! A must-visit if you're passing through – until next time, old Brooklyn neighbor!

This is THE BEST breakfast/lunch/bespoke grocery spot this side of the Hudson River. The cheeseburger and chicken sandwich are absolute staples for me, and the sausage egg and cheese with a hash brown tossed in the middle is probably the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had! Not to mention it’s basically the best Asian grocery store within an hour?? When you go inside it’s like stepping into a bygone era where the friendly staff ask how you’re doing and actually mean It. Hats off to Craig and Jen for this amazing spot they put so much love into.
