In pondering where to ride this afternoon a friend I remembered the old Ruff Cut in Bethel was reopened, neither if us had been there yet so we headed there. We were glad we did. The draw of the old Ruff Cut was the roast beef sandwiches; they were piled high with great roast beef. I can state that the roast beef sandwiches we had tonight were as good as they ever were. Upon pulling up I didn’t know what to expect from the sandwiches as the cats that always hung around outside the kitchen door were not to be seen. Also, the parking lot had a fair number of cars in it, which was never the case at the old Ruff Cut. Inside the new owners redid the place a bit, but they preserved the feel of the old version very well and respectfully. The ruff sawn wood is on the walls, but it is clean now. The bar was redone a bit, there are taps (don’t worry PBR in cans is still available), some new lights, tables, chairs, front deck with tables, accessible ramped entryway, etc. The driveway and parking lot still have potholes and ruts that could damage an expensive sports car…but motorcycles and pickups have no problem. They also have a much-expanded menu than the old version of the Ruff Cut, not just roast beef sandwiches. Plates that we saw as they passed by looked very good, all portions seemed generous and for the time we were there we heard numerous compliments no negative comments or anything needed corrected. At the old Ruff Cut the owner served you. Tonight, the place was staffed by several younger but quite knowledgeable capable wait staff and bartender. We sat at the bar, service was prompt and our orders came as requested. I foresee returning to Matson’s Ruff Cut again soon. When I do I would like to try other menu items, but I think it would be hard to not get the roast beef...
Read moreFour of us sat down at a table at 6 PM (there was only one other table when we got there) and ordered two beers and two waters and our appetizers right away. For appetizers, we ordered cheese, curds and banging shrimp, which were very good. The waitress brought over our drinks, but it took an hour for the two appetizers to come out. During the time of waiting for our appetizers, we had to go up to the bar to get refills on our water and beer several times. Our dinner orders were a chicken Caesar salad, a burger and fries, a patty melt and a French dip Panini. We finally got our dinners at 7:30. Nobody at the table, even ate half of their dinner. Both burgers were very dry and grainy, french fries were cold and the chicken Caesar salad came out five minutes after everybody else’s meal. Not once did a waitress come over and ask how everything was and didn’t even comment about the food that was not eaten when she came to bring our check and clear the table. There seems to be no source of organization within the establishment. This was our first time eating here and it will surely...
Read moreResearching this place for awhile then finally gave them a chance not once but two times with the same outcome. After a long day my husband called in an order around 2 hours in advance of arrival. The signs of being unwelcomed started there. They were busy ok but I am giving over 2 hours to prepare my to go order. I give the order but the server was reluctant etc. I ask to clarify closing time as their website says 9pm and server says 8:45 so I hustle my drive. I arrive at 8:18 and the order was not submitted or ready..ok so it takes some time for this to get submitted. Then I continue to be reminded that this is favor etc but see if you are from the area.. seems No sweat..even a local or 2 placed larger to go orders that seem to miraculously go thru and be handed out in the time I order and am waiting mine.. After 40ish minutes and some coercing my order comes but without a few of the things ordered. Then I have to wait to pay out. I think this place is meant for locals only who...
