You find yourself Up Nort' Der Hey & looking for a good meal and a good beer to wash it down with? Head to The Fireside! We vacation up here occasionally, and we ALWAYS make it a point to make The Fireside a part of our vacay plans. Always.
Swiss, Bacon and Potato soup is STELLAR! Had it with the Shrimps and Lobster Ravioli dinner special tonight with Alfredo sauce... sauce way too thick and processed, wish I would have had the ravs in the soup instead of the sauce, sounds crazy but it would have been mindblowingly amazing! Washing it down with Spotted Cow on tap was absolutely perfect! Five dollars for twenty ounces of the best.beer.EVERRRR. YES!
My sister-in-law always gets the prime rib, must be pretty good if she makes it her repeat meal, time after time! Same with the French Onion Soup, my brother-in-law's favorite. Some dishes are quite pricey for the quality, in my opinion... Like the "special" that night, the Shrimp and Lobster Ravioli, tasted and looked like it just came out of the freezer, like what I could buy at the store, and heated up with some canned thick, bland, nauseating "alfraedo" sauce. I was sad to waste my Fireside meal on this, because usually the food it pretty good, and we love coming here, this was just sadly disappointing. Good thing the basket of buns and apple cinnamon mini muffins were there with my delish Spotted Cow on tap, those were the highlights of my meal... But don't expect it to get too fancy up in here, it's just an up north supper club, but it has it's perks, since the Rhinelander area dining is limited.
I do like the scenery of it being right on the lake. Quaint, up north atmosphere.
We'll be back of course, maybe just sticking to a liquid dinner Spotted Cow though.... and maybe some of their delish baked...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped here for dinner the other night and we were disappointed in the food. We started with a couple of cocktails at the bar, the drinks were good and the service was too. We were then seated and were impressed with the menu and what was to be included with dinner. Each meal comes with both soup and salad, along with rolls and a mini muffin. The salad was a supper club salad, exactly what we expected. But from there it went down hill. We both love french onion soup and were excited to try it and didn’t mind the $2 up charge, until it came out. When it was presented we both looked at it a little confused. They brought out French onion soup with a white American cheese slice on it! The cheese proceeded to disintegrate into the soup tainting the rest of it with that processed cheese taste. For my main course I ordered the prime rib, which came out and looked good, cooked to rare which is how I ordered it, but they must have gotten a pretty tough rib roast. Biting into it, it was surprisingly flavorless and chewy. I also ordered the scallops on the side which for $15, they were pretty small for that cost in my opinion, they were just alright. I also had ordered the twice backed potato for a $2 up charge, I was shocked that they were able to change the color to an orange potato but also not add any flavor. My wife ordered the roasted duck, which came out incredibly over cooked. The duck had an orange glaze sauce on the side which was cold, which was a confusing choice we thought. The staff was nice enough and the ambiance fit the north woods supper club esthetic. Over all a disappointment, I would recommend going to Wally’s South 17 or...
Read moreNew ownership is awesome! Fireside has become an annual tradition for my wife and I over the last 9 years we've gone to the Northwoods together (she's been going for 30, so she has high standards for supper clubs). Although we've gone primarily for the sunset view and cozy bar in past years, this year we were blown away by the quality of the food and service. We went relatively late on a slow Wednesday night (around 8pm). We noticed new art on the menu cover, but inside it looked like all of the same options were there. On the back of the menu, we noticed that they have new ownership after some 30 years under previous owners, but the the goal has been to keep the menu the same. They've done that while also boosting the quality of everything coming out of the kitchen and bar. My lake perch and my wife's baked walleye were both absolutely perfect. Presentation was beautiful. No sloppy pool of butter on the plate, and the fish was cooked to a perfect flake. Our Old Fashions from the bar were superb--their mix seems to be better this year. And after dinner, our server kindly served us another round even though we were the last table in the restaurant (something we didn't notice right away.) He brought us our drinks without ever conveying a sense of wanting to get us out of there. We didn't linger long, but we will definitely be back. Thank you so much to the new owners for keeping the great atmosphere and raising the quality of food and service at this amazing...
