My family ate there yesterday for the first time. Cute little place. Our server was nice, I enjoyed her. Unfortunately, one of the other servers [and whoever runs the kitchen] soured our opinion about this diner to the point that I will never go back. We ordered a few cheeseburgers, the chicken Slovakia, and the open faced turkey sandwich. We also ordered "hot wings" for an appetizer. When the "hot wings" came ... several things to note. 1. There was no HOT sauce. But I just chalked that up to by "hot" they must have meant cooked. More notably, there was a hair on one of the wings. I showed the person who brought the food. She took the plate back... about about 2 minutes later she came back with another order of wings. She said to us, "Oh, they looked and it was just a piece of fabric from the towel they were using from the kitchen. But they whipped up a new batch for you." And then she promptly left. Now... I might let the comment about the towel go, except I know what a piece of hair looks like. It was definitely hair. More importantly - I also noticed that 1. the plate came with 8 wings.... left with 8 wings... and my "fresh order" (which took apparently less than 2 minutes) only had 7. I'm not an idiot... I know that means they simply took one off and reserved us the same food. For this reason, I will NEVER go back - I do not appreciate being lied to. The rest of the food was "OK" - nothing special. I assume their breakfast is much better, but...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst diner experience I have ever had in my life! I had high hopes that this place would round out a nice trip to Christman's Sanctuary. It was not, in fact it wasn't much more that a Sysco truck-stop. It was not busy and yet we waited more than 30 minutes for a turkey club and a tuna melt. The wait could have been because the staff was arguing over the ice tea refill policy or that they were too busy on their cell phones! Then when we finally got our ice tea it was watered down because you put ice in the brewed tea and then when you pour it you only pour half a glass and fill the rest with water. So, essentially you are serving tea-flavored water--nasty! The waitress we had was very rude and if it weren't for the red-headed waitress, we would have walked out. Seriously, fire the rest and keep the red-head she is the only one that knows how to be a waitress! Also, drink refills should not be where you try to make your money. How about you cut the number of items on your menu and focus on preparing fewer items really well? That would keep people coming back and increase your bottom line. My tuna melt was disgusting and cold, which tells me it was microwaved instead of prepared properly. I won't come back and I will be sure to tell everyone I know not to...
Read moreWe stopped off at this diner on the way back from a visit to the Howe Caverns for a VERY late lunch. I was cold and hungry from the spelunking tour, so I ordered a cup of ham and pea soup, and the grilled reuben with potato salad. Our food came out fast and hot, and all of the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating.
The ham and pea soup was a tasty start to the meal and helped get rid of the chill from the cave, but that grilled reuben was the star of the day. I've had many a reuben in my life, but this was the best reuben I've ever tasted, hands-down. The bread was perfectly grilled, the corned beef nice and lean, the amount of dressing and sauerkraut absolute perfection. I swore I'd died and gone to heaven, that reuben was so good. The potato salad was unlike any I'd ever had before with shredded carrots added to the mix, but it was also delicious. I devoured every bite.
If you find yourself in the area, and are looking for a delicious warm meal, served with a smile, definitely give this...
