Went for a Friday fish fry on the recommendation of locals. Good food and salad bar, and or waitress was superb. Got there early by five minutes, no hours posted so we called saying we were in the parking lot and wondered if they were open that night and when. Did not let us in early, which is understandable. However when we finally got in, had to sit at the bar because the dining room didn't open for another 1/2 hope, tried to style up a conversation with the bartender Troy, who we later found out was one of the owners. He was having none of it. Asked him about the fish fry, whether it was all you can eat, how many pieces you got off it wasn't, etc... His response was "I don't know! You gotta ask the waitresses. I don't work in the dining room!". Thought that maybe the owner may be privy to such apparently highly secret information. Decided to give it a try because this place is on the middle of nowhere and we drove 3 hours to get there. Thank God for or fantastic waitress, she saved the night but still will never go back and can not recommend it. I grew up in northern WI and know "Wisconsin Nice". Maybe he is a...
Read moreWe’ve been here a couple times recently and I always base my reviews based on “expectations based on pricing and location”. If you walk in, it’s very outdated but at the same time reminiscent of a supper club, which is exactly what it is. Brown walls and old leinies and other beer decor. Service is friendly. The fish fry is really good and reasonably priced. Dinners come with a salad bar that is pretty standard, nothing fancy but nice to have. Ive had the baked fish with broiled shrimp and my husband has had the fried fish and both of us were very satisfied. Drink prices are typical but the best part of this place is they serve pink squirrel dessert drinks (they also have grasshoppers)! It’s rare to find a place around here that has them and it’s what I look forward to when I go.
We’ve also both had steaks medium rare done here and they were cooked perfectly. Mine could have used a touch more seasoning but otherwise good.
One of the things we appreciate about this place is the simplicity. It’s not fancy, it’s quiet, and you can really enjoy someone’s company here (especially since there isn’t any cell...
Read moreIt's been years since we were here due to having young kids. Had to wait 30 mins so should be good. Service was alright when we saw her but had to go find someone to get our bill. Kids food portions are the same size if not bigger then the adults which was crazy. I had fried cod that once you bit into it you had to wait for the water to drain out. That came with 2 pieces of fish. My wife had the broiled cod. I should has asked where the rest of her food was. She received 1 piece of fish. My wife doesn't normally finish a meal completely due to being full. Her plate was wiped clean and still hungry. I ended up going back for seconds at salad bar due to needing more food. One child corn dog had to peel the batter off as that was hard and burnt. Other kids cheese burger was so so according to him. I overheard another table ask a waitress if the food portions have gotten smaller because they didn't have much fish also. On the plus the old fashioned was good. Maybe it was bad Friday night for them. If i had to do it again, unfortunately, I would find a culvers or any other...
