12/18 update: the owner sent a Christmas card with a gift certificate and her sincere apologies for our prior experience. we gave them another chance and the service and food were very good this time around. The bartender and server who was such a jerk no longer works there. I feel like our relationship is restored and I will return again.
(10/18) I have been waiting to leave this review since August when we were last there and called the owner myself to report what the following review says and had hoped that the owner would try to make things right as she had promised over the phone by mailing a gift certificate and card of apology to my daughter but two months later nothing has arrived so..... Wish I could leave ZERO stars after what we just experienced. My review HAD been 5 stars until UPDATED Aug. 2018- I don't know what the heck has happened to this place, but it has COMPLETELY changed since my last extremely positive review in June! My last two visits (July and August) have been bitterly disappointing, especially after I bragged to all my friends and co-workers about the place and food as someone who has eaten here often over the past few years. Whoever the new lady bartender/waitress is, she is off the charts sarcastic and rude! My husband and girl arrived before me and ordered drinks. She spilled a soda in my girls lap and didn't bring her napkins to clean it up-- she actually snatched my girls' single napkin from her silverware and threw it in her lap! AND, she never brought her a napkin to replace it, so I gave her mine when I arrived and had to make do with the wet napkin! When my girl and husband asked to put in their order for fish so they could get it started, she refused saying she only wanted to send back ONE ticket (I arrived a little late, so was going to look over menu first before ordering.) The service was incredibly SLOW even though there were few customers, the fish was VERY overcooked and visibly dark, practically burnt and the woman waited half an hour after we got the food to see how it was - she should have known it wasn't cooked properly! She never asked if we wanted refills of our drinks. She walked away quickly when we complained about the fish and asked for fresh, properly cooked ones but sassed that she would put in another order as she picked up the table of another visibly disgruntled customer who had just left. We waited ANOTHER 30 minutes, still no fish, and finally decided to just leave. We had to request our check at the bar from our bartender/waitress. We got charged a total of $39.75: it was $25.98 for two, "all-u-can eat" fish fry with small servings of fries (my girl had one piece and my husband choked down just two pieces of fish- plus we were over charged as the price is advertised as $10.99 on their website), $3.00 for one soda with NO refills, $8.99 for the pub burger with pita chips, and two waters. We asked for a discount because the fish was so bad and literally ate the equivalent of just one of the orders (each dinner was put out with just 3 pieces of fish) and we never got the fish reorder, but the bartender/waitress was argumentative and refused, said my girl ate most of hers (untrue) and we should have told her sooner to send it back... Ummmm, impossible to do that when she practically avoided us all night! I have gotten better food and outstanding service with the place completely packed out on a Friday night, compared to this Wednesday visit with just three tables being served by two waitstaff. So sad and very disappointed--- this USED to be my favorite fish fry in the WHOLE STATE. I don't know if it's new staff or my bad luck to have this server, but if the owners are the same, I hope...
Read moreIn general the prices are on the high side for a pub in the middle of no where . Done things more so than others. Stopped in for lunch by myself on my way home, wanted wings and fries. 10$ for 6 wings, not a great price but not bad either. But that's just wings. I would have also gotten fries but either $10 for a full order or $8 for a half order, WHAT? No lunch wing option with chips or fries or at least an ad fries option to the wing appetizer. Either it's way over priced or the portion is way too big for even a half order. If it's the latter I would suggest to them to also offer a single size order for a more reasonable price. In the end I couldn't bring myself to pay 22.50 plus tax and tip for one beer, 6 wings and fries so I had my 4.50 bottle of Patosi beer and tried the next place down the road. That's more than it costs at any of the award winning wing places around. I'd much rather go the other way home and stop at knuckle heads in Eagle and I don't care for them much either but their prices are more reasonable. I just don't understand these Chicago prices, even Milwaukee is cheaper. I'll try the next place down the road. The bartender didn't talk to be at all. I especially didn't enjoy listening to the kid at the end of the bar listening to Barney on full blast. Nothing at this place makes me want to come back. They might be otherwise pretty good but...
Read moreThis is a difficult review to write because this place USED to be a top notch 4-5 stars, but apparently they changed owners since my last visit and that explains everything. First off, the on line menu is NOT. The menu inside the pub. Then we get to the actual food....It all starts with our appetizer, we ordered Nachos, with no onions, as some one in our party was allergic to them. Well they brought out the Nachos with onions. When we sent them back, they simply picked off the Onions and sent them back out. So we found SEVERAL onions still in the Nachos. The waitress offered to not charge us for them, but really it was a pointless gesture by then. I let this pass as I remembered the food always being top notch. Well the food came out and we all were nothing but disappointed, extra greasy burgers, if you get the soup and sandwich, expect your sandwich to be like the one mom packed you in 4th grade, and the pizza crust was still raw dough!! If your looking for a place to eat, keep looking, as this place is a perfect example of how to take a great restaurant...
