I had an anniversary dinner at LeChambord about 30 years ago...with what's now my ex. Today my bride (of 20 years) and I had enjoyed a subdued and pleasant brunch with attentive and gracious service and wonderful food. I've passed by this venue hundreds of times since my first and only visit thinking, we need to go in. We knew it changed hands and saw some adverts on "tap room", "music" etc... But never pulled in. Not for not wanting, just for not thinking about it. Up here in the boonies there are few decent choices without taking a sojourn to Danbury, Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park etc... And further. We are in this business in another state and for 30 years I thought of doing something up here...then I thought...why? It's the sticks... With what I do as a chef, not many would get it (?). But it's remained a nice idea because living in this area, basically the Hudson Valley, is mostly peaceful and driving home, it's a reprieve from the hustle in my work. Having a place with good food only 12 minutes away is really kinda cool... When there is zero in between my home and here at Restaurant Six. My wife said after our visit..."I'd like to be a regular here". Coming from her is remarkable... my thoughts exactly. We are stupidly simple to please so long as whomever is in the kitchen doesn't try so damn hard to reinvent food, and service is pleasant. Drinks were great as well...a bloody only I might have been able to beat. Maybe. So there it is... A family run place we'd love to frequent after the first visit...for all the right reasons. I don't think I'll wait another 30 years to visit. Worth the trip...even if you're passing through on the Taconic from Manhattan to Stratton...chill a little It's a little risky putting accolades out after one shot...but I have a feeling... ... and it's a whole hell of a lot better than reading a review trashing a place, from some knucklef...k who visits a place and thinks they know it all. God I hate...
Read moreThis is for the restaurant. We went there for a anniversary dinner. We liked the story with the 6 sisters which drew us there. We were greeted nicely and given a small secluded table for our special dinner. Lets start with pricing. Its no shock Anymore that their prices are steep. But with saying that you expect a good meal
I had french onion soup appetizer, well thats what they call it. As a long time onion soup fan, this was not your typical french onion with the deep rich dark broth. This was a semi thick, light brown Broth very few onions and a baguette that tasted Drenched with butter. No flavor other than the butter. Ugh is a kind description. My wife had a cheese and green tomato appetizer that she liked
Now things go downhill quick. Mains were a 12 oz NY strip and a 8 oz filet mignon We both ordered medium. My strip was well for sure, and hers was like trying to slice dried wood. Certainly well done, dry for sure. Both not hot at all, rather luke warm No flavor, cooked terrible. If you wanted some flavor you needed salt big time. Under the meat Were some veggies, and yukon mash
Waiter asked how things tasted. We generally just say fine, but with these steep prices we said it was over cooked some. We got comped a drink for our troubles. Personally, there wasnt even an offer to make the expensive entree right with another cut Very disappointing. I left half the food, my wife ate hers because she was starving and didnt want to complain. Dessert was a strawberry cheescake Very soft, not dense like you would think
We were given a bottle of wine for our troubles, which was nice, but the cost of $180.00 for that dread was appalling. Needless to say, a trip back Is out of the question. We've honestly had better steaks at the Ponderosa at a fraction of the cost
Ambiance was nice. My advise. Dont send any food out without checking if its done properly I could have done...
Read moreI almost gave a 1 star review. But that wouldnt be fair because of one staff members behavior. The place is beautiful. The staff was accommodating. The room was spacious. I was there this past weekend and have to say that I was truly shocked by the behavior of a young girl that was watching over the free continental breakfast setup. Young girl dirty blonde with earpods on while working and just looking at the computer or phone. There were 4 guests that were at a table and one of them went to ask her about having a non dairy product option for the coffee. As well as mentioned to her that she had been rude to the ladies that were with him. She apologized and he said dont apologize to me. If you wish apologize to them. She said she would look. At this time I was serving myself and notices there were no more fruits and other products on the table setup. I grabbed some silverware rollups. Grabbed a coffee and sat down. No spoon in the rollup. So I went to ask her for a spoon she said they were in the rollup. I said that my wife's and I rollup didnt have any. She said maybe somebody else made the rollups. She gave us the spoons. I went back to table and had to asked her for some sugar for the coffee. She said they are on the tables. I said there isn't. Not a single table had sugar on them. She said someone must've taken them off all the tables. Found some and sat down to enjoy my coffee. She then came over to tell the guests at the other table that unfortunately there were no other non dairy products she could offer. That however the Dunkin Donuts down the street offers non dairy choices. (I almost choked) As a business owner myself I know that your people are important. She needs A LOT of customer service training, or get someone else. She went to cut some fruit, which I in no way would touch based on her behavior. Who knows whether shes cleaning the fruit, the knife, the cutting board, etc....
