My wife and I stopped here for dinner on a rainy fall night in October in Door County. We had high hopes based on the reviews and aesthetics, but found ourselves underwhelmed.
We'll start with the looks. It's a great looking place tucked into the woods off the main road in Door County. A beautiful looking log cabin style building. This look continues on the inside with a rustic, wood everywhere feel in a well-lit space with huge ceilings. I have to say though there's a certain manufactured log cabin feel to everything, similar to how things look at The Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. But honestly I don't expect them to build a legitimate log structure with mud and sticks.
The place looks great, but for us the food was a huge disappointment. I have to be totally honest here, this felt like upscale cafeteria food at 3 star prices. For the food I had a bad feeling from the start, as the menu was printed on a white piece of paper that was stained and a bit crumpled from being in circulation too long. As it was a Friday night, I went the Wisconsin fish fry route with the baked parmesan haddock while my wife went with the Italian sausage lasagna.
Both came with the salad/soup bar, so I'll start there. Yes, they have salad bar, and it's straight out of the 1980s. The salad bar was picked over and a little sad on this busy Friday night, and the soup was in worse shape, with drippings from previous guest's usage everywhere. The dressings were either mislabeled or not labeled at all, and the croutons looked like they came out of a giant bag somewhere. Not good.
Sadly, our entrees did not improve the situation. My wife's lasagna had a nice, deep red sauce, but if there was sausage anywhere we couldn't find it. There wasn't much of mozzarella or ricotta to be found, and honestly it felt a lot like lasagna noodles and tomato sauce. My haddock and fries were also disappointing. I expected the parmesan to mean some kind of parmesan and breadcrumb crust, but instead it was a piece of haddock covered in melted parmesan and some kind of creamy cheese sauce beneath that. It tasted ok, but not what I would expect at all. The fries were the highlight of what we got.
Now don't get me wrong, they weren't terrible, but both came in at $25+. At those prices I just expect better quality.
We finished our meal with a pumpkin roll desert with vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was actually very good, nice and creamy, but the roll was only ok. The cake was fine, but the cream cheese frosting felt more like a butter frosting, it was far too thick and rich.
Overall, we would not recommend this place unless you care more about the ambience...
Read moreWe stumbled across this gem just off of 42, and wow—what an incredible surprise it turned out to be. As a family, we were looking for something unique and memorable, and this place gave us exactly that with our first-ever fish boil experience.
From the moment we walked in, we were in awe. The building itself is absolutely stunning—so thoughtfully designed and rich in character. You instantly feel like you're stepping into somewhere special. We started our evening at the bar where Mary crafted some seriously great cocktails—she clearly knows what she’s doing and was so friendly, too.
We made our way outside and grabbed a table right in front of the fish boil setup to get a good view. The man running the fish boil was not only knowledgeable but incredibly entertaining. He kept everyone engaged and laughing—really made it feel like an event. Then, to top it off, the family dog, Frabill, came bounding over to greet us, followed by Steve, one of the owners, who introduced himself and made us feel right at home.
When the food was ready, we went inside for a buffet-style dinner—and honestly, wow. The fish was delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned, with tender veggies and some of the best chicken we’ve had in a long time. And then came the cherry pie… made by the owner himself, topped with homemade whipped cream. Just incredible.
What really sets this place apart is how much heart is in every detail. The staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive to every guest, treating everyone like family. After dinner, they played a short video telling the story of how the cabin was built—what an inspiring journey. The craftsmanship, the family legacy, and the love poured into this place deserve a book of their own.
A special shoutout to Steve—your kindness and stories added so much to our night. Thank you for making us feel like part of the family. We’ll be coming back every single time we’re in Door County.

Read moreWe were looking for a place to dine on a lazy Sunday afternoon near Egg Harbor in Door County, WI. What we found was a wonderful family owned restaurant with attentive service and delicious food. When pulling into the parking lot you are greeted with a stunning log cabin set back from the road, surrounded by trees and beautiful vistas of nature. There are carved wood animals and beautiful architectural features all around. The main entrance is framed with two tall carved bears that greet you and the main doors have wood carvings of deer in the forest. That is just the beginning…. The inside of this restaurant is filled with a plethora of beautiful architectural details. Now onto the food.
Exceptional is the best word to describe it. The salad bar is stocked with fresh veggies and greens. The chili (with beans) is one of the best I have ever tasted. I had the ribs, the meat fell off the bones and was still juicy and tender. The side of vegetables was seasoned just right and well cooked, but still crisp. My fiance had Chicken Diane, she said the sauce was smooth and flavorful. The chicken melted in her mouth.
Our server Cody was very attentive, he kept our water glasses topped off and checked in on us just the right amount of time. We finished off the meal with Door County Cherry Pie with homemade whipped cream. Mmm, Mmm good! You must stop here if you are in Door County, you will not be...
