The food was just fantastic. The burgers were huge. For a sense of what that might mean, you can order a "small" version which is actually about the size you'd normally get at any other restaurant, haha. For my order, I was pleased the ham on the ham and cheese melt wasn't all fat and gristle like I've encountered at other restaurants. If you have a picky child in tow, I'll make a quick note that the cheese was white not yellow sliced cheese. So I can also attest to a delicious grilled cheese. They are a cash only establishment, which I am grateful we knew ahead of time. The only gripe this visit was the service. The family members that encouraged our visit said that the service was out of the ordinary, and as regulars they were unimpressed. To give you an idea, breakfast ends at 11:30a. We arrived after 11a but the waitress said breakfast was still an option as the menus got passed around. By the time she returned, breakfast was no longer an option. And by the time we got the check it was nearly 1p. And that's even after most tables cleared out. It's frustrating when bad service overshadows the excellent food. The cow packed decor did help to provide some distraction. Holstein cows with their black and white spots abound around every corner. We bought some distraction in our wait time having the five year old check out the cows, haha. I'd hit this spot again. The food was great and the I've been reassured the service...

The Ellery Country Cow is pretty famous for everything being cow themed and the large amounts of cow toys, knick knacks, memorabilia, and other odds and ends makes it rather amusing to look at everything inside when waiting on an order. The food also comes in pretty large proportions, such as Elmer sized pancakes or their giant sized omelettes which are good for the price. The staff that work here are really nice and easy going people and on one occasion I was offered a free meal due to a messed up order.
That being said, my only criticism is that the coffee here is consistently pretty weak. It's very cheap coffee (intentionally so), but it is so watered down that it doesn't really wake you up nor do you get to enjoy the flavor of coffee. Ive noticed this on a few separate occasions, and so while Im glad their coffee is very cheap in terms of pricing, I think making it a bit stronger would be a nice improvement.
Either way, I definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast...
Read moreThis is exactly what you'd picture if I said: A small town restaurant with a cow theme.
The food was plentiful, the prices were reasonable, and the hard-working ladies were really friendly. We left feeling stuffed (in a good way). In the photo, my husband had the full sub, and I had the half.
Only complaint I had was that there wasn't air conditioning on a really warm summer day. It was tolerable, but air would have been nice.
If I'm in the Chautauqua area again, I'd...
