I made it up to the quaint hamlet of Hankins and had to see what everyone was talking about “Pelkeys Tavern” when I arrived it was bustling with people but I was able to get a nice cold glass of Stella Artois served in its proper chalice- kudos! I was a little famished from the long drive up and a Pelkeys Tavern regular “Ralph” recommended I have the special that night- a steak 🥩 sandwich and it did not disappoint!!! I found the bar to be lively, all of the patrons were enjoying themselves and having a good time. I met the owner “Bill Pelkey” who was working behind the bar on his birthday 🥳 as fate would have it. He was a gregarious fellow. Pleasant at first but then all business. Understandable with the growing crowd of patrons he was serving. He did take the time to pose for a picture with me. I never made the cut for his “VIP” section though. I think it’s for Steelers fans only… 🙄

Pelkey’s Tavern is truly a hidden gem in Hankins, NY! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere and great food. I had the chance to meet the owner, Will, and it’s clear he’s put his heart and soul into this place. The service was excellent, and the live band added so much to the experience—great music at the perfect volume. You could enjoy it outside by the fire pit and still carry on a conversation inside. I ordered the Diablo, one of their specialties, and was pleasantly surprised by both the flavor and the portion size. The fries are outstanding too! For the quality and amount of food, the prices are very reasonable. This is an easy stop right off Route 86. If you’re traveling from the City up to the Catskills or further into Upstate NY, definitely add Pelkey’s Tavern to your trip—you won’t be disappointed!

The food was very good, portions were fair. They had good specials for drinks like $2.50 for miller, but others were a bit pricey. Good alcohol selection. Very nice atmosphere. This place has lots of potential. It’s close to our vacation cabin, so I have high hopes. Hoping they figure out appropriate pricing and expand their menu a bit. Look forward to outdoor area with games perhaps. Overall worth a try or two! Huge improvement from the last bar (though I enjoyed that too). 2025 Edit: food good. Beer good. Prices good. Outside usually has fire and I’m a moth to the flame. Live music sometimes. They let me play the piano which is cool too.

Drove by one day. Came back a week later. Service was terrible. Took 10 minutes to get a drink order. And placed an appetizer order. Never got it.

A group of guys came in 5 minutes after us. Got all their drinks and appetizers before me.

I was there for 40 minutes. Got one diet coke, no appetizer or food even though I ordered it. The chef came out to talk to people. Laughing and stuff. I asked about my food order. He claimed he never got the order, but I had the receipt showing I ordered food. I asked to have them taken off.

This could have been a real treat. I was going to bring my band here to play live if it was good. But after tonight's service no go.

I don't blame the one person taking drink orders and food orders. There was only one person for everything order wise. But two cooks. Why the lag. The the waitress was a...
