I mailed this review to the manager. I never got a response, so I thought I should post it here as apparently they have no intention on improving their service.
I am writing to express my disappointment in my family’s Thanksgiving Day Buffet experience. We chose to dine at Peek ‘n Peak that day because we were able to make reservations to dine at our desired time for the holiday meal. Our party of eight included two people with health problems which make standing for long periods of time painful, and a two-year-old who needs to eat on a timely basis. We arrived early at 2 PM for our 2:15 reservation. The lobby area was full of customers waiting to be seated. The hostess didn’t have tables in which to seat them as previous customers were not leaving. I stood by the hostess stand and watched the employees struggle to communicate and effectively clear tables, wipe tables, set tables, find and wrap silverware, and provide a server to take and fill drink orders. I checked in twice to ensure we were not overlooked, and was assured each time that our table was being prepared. Eventually, we were the absolute last family in the lobby, and were called to our table at 3 PM, 45 minutes after our reservation time. The table was a plastic table with plastic chairs. Certainly not what one would expect indoors at your price point. Although we did have a server check in to take our drink orders, we mostly waited on ourselves. Our used dinner plates were never cleared and we had to repeatedly ask for our water to be refilled. We also had to ask for a roll of new silverware, as the original roll was dirty. The server did bring our bill in a timely manner. The total with tax was $382. I wasn’t sure how much would be an appropriate tip. I usually leave at least a 20% tip. But after a 45 minutes wait, begging for a table, and having to do most of our server’s job… I hope that by conveying our disappointing experience you can make improvements in your dining room. If you can’t hire enough staff to provide the experience your price point dictates, I would decrease the number of reservations you accept. Also, I would suggest doing seatings for your buffets. Seat customers at 10, 12, and 2 (or whenever) and clear the dining room between seatings. I would also come up with a more efficient procedure for vacating guests, clearing and prepping tables, and more effectively checking on the needs of guests dining at...
Read moreNice people but way overpriced for the quality of food. It may have just been the “ Valentine’s Day” menu but $68 for a 8 oz filet, $200 for a 20oz tomahawk steak / lobster tail, and $25 for a cheese pizza is insane unless you’re at a 5 star restaurant in a major city. I got a $16 burger and it was a $2 up charge for fries and $5 up charge for a side salad. I actually ended up sending back the salad because it came 7 min after my burger came out and I’d already finished it. The waitress acted insulted that I sent the side salad back. Most places bring out your salad before the main dish or at least ask it you would like it before. My wife got a $36 brisket meal that was a pile of shredded brisket covered in melted cheese and onion straws served over mashed potatoes and a vegetable side. It was served cold. The loaded tater tots were served with the same brisket on top as an appetizer for $16 and were delicious. Somehow adding mashed potatoes and a veggie warranted a $20 up charge over the $16 appetizer. The Chicken dish was even $36…for chicken . Also the gift card system they use there is a disaster. Scott Enterprises sends a $10 gift card for every $50 card purchased for their ultimate gift card. They sent me 16 separate gift cards totaling $480. Why can’t they just send one card for $480?! I used 6x $10 gift cards and 2x $50 cards to pay for my meal. It literally broke their sysem and I spent 45 min after my meal sitting there waiting for them to try and figure out how how to process the transaction. My family left to go swim while I sat there because they said I had to sign the receipt even though I needed no change. Finally they just told me I could leave. My dinner was at 6:30 and I didn’t get out of there until 8:30 and the pool area closed at 9 so I missed out on spending time with my kids and enjoying the evening at the hotel. We were only booked at the hotel for one night and didn’t check in until 6pm after a 3 hour drive. I feel bad for the staff as well for having the stress of those gift cards. My advice is to lower prices and keep a full menu even if you have holiday specials. The food is usually pretty good but comparable to a texas road house or outback. And please just send one gift card and save yourself the plastic and your staff...
Read moreI've been to Peek n Peak a handful of times the last few years, most recently September 2022. Maybe I'm missing something here as I see all the great reviews from 'local' guides.
My honest opinion: the place does have its old charm, if that's your thing. Actually, it's VERY dated. The buildings are in need of desperate repairs and updates. I've stayed in regular rooms to suites and they all have a musky odor. Not to mention very very dark, dated interior and decor. There are fixtures broken or worn out, door don't shut or lock, on and on.
It would take too long to list a litany of things to be painted, repaired or replaced.
The pool is nice however, but the basketball play area is a mess, leaking roof, worn out, etc.
The whole place needs a major upgrade.
As for the Bistro: where to begin. I ordered the baked cod. It was dry and chewy. The waitress forgot to bring my French onion soup as appetizer. When I did get it, it's not a good soup. The onions was waaay overcooked and it lacks flavor.
My daughter had the kids pizza. It was doughy and appeared uncooked ( maybe it's the style). She didn't like it. My daughter NEVER say no to pizza except this one. We got the Mac and cheese and that was good.
Mind you I've been here a handful of times and have eaten at the Bistro each trip. The food is nothing to brag about, mediocre at best.
Overall, place is in need of major upgrades. Food is mediocre. Service is ok, depending on what you're doing.
I go there to ski or do the Zipline course with my young daughter. I stay and eat there out of convenience, that's it. If there were other accommodations close by I would not stay or eat at Peak.
It would be a great place for a wedding ( there were two weddings during our stay) but not in its current conditions.
For the price, you will be...
