I had read online all the great posts about the food at The Stillery and was excited when they opened up for dine in service. We live too far for take out service. Friday night our family decided to try out the fish fry. We got to the restaurant about 5:15 and was immediately seated. We ordered a fish fry dinner, chicken sandwich, kids chicken tender meal and pretzels and cheese as an appetizer. The appetizer came out right away and was AWESOME! Around 6:15 our waitress told us the next round of beer was on her for the wait. It was no bid deal I knew they had just opened up again. At around 7:00 she gave us a $75 gift card and said dinner is on them for the wait. At this point we were getting pretty antsy and hungry. She said our food should be coming out next. We sat there and watched several other tables get their food that had come in after us. At 7:30 I went up to the hostess desk and asked to speak to the manager and told her we had been waiting for over 2 hours for our food. Keep in mind the manager had not once come over to apologize. They were busy, but I didn't think it was crazy busy. The manager came over to our table and before i said a word he apologized and immediately said we gave you a gift card, we are picking up dinner WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT and then went in to the kitchen staff was new, the pandemic was nuts and their curb side orders were out of hand. I then said we had been waiting over 2 hours and that we had been very patient up to that point, but when I saw other tables getting their food before us, that had come in after us that was a problem. AT THAT POINT, JASON THE MANAGER, SAID WE WERE MAKING A SCENE AND ASKED US TO LEAVE. I have never made a scene anywhere and based on the circumstances I thought we had been extremely patient and understanding. At that point our food came. It was now 7:40 and we had been at the restaurant for 2 hours and 25 minutes with an 8 year old. He said eat your food and get out! All of this in front of our 8 year old daughter. This was completely uncalled for. We were just a family of 3 wanting to get out of the house for dinner. I have since donated the $75 gift card. His reaction to this situation was completely uncalled for and he should not be dealing with the public with an attitude like that. There are several other restaurants in the area to eat at. I will never patronize The Stillery again and will share my story every time i have a chance.
I would like to respond to the restaurants comment on my post. Im thrilled that they do so much for the community. Has nothing to do with what happened to my family and the poor customer service that we recieved. I never talked to the owner and I was never disrespectful to the manager, the one time that i talked to him. His decision to ask us to leave was made on the fly when i asked him how long it took to make a fish dinner, chicken sandwich and kids meal. He immediately said your causing a scene and i want you to leave. He never discussed our conversation with the owner and i was not disrespectful to any other employee. I even left our waitress a very nice tip. It wasn't her fault that it took 2 hours and 25 minutes to make a fish dinner, chicken sandwich and kids meal. Their response is a complete lie and i take offense to that. After reading several other comments seems like im not the only one that had issues, but was the only one that brought it to the managers attention and my family was...

The atmosphere is open and loud. It WAS a Friday night and Fish Fries in Wisconsin bring everybody out. There was a particularly loud party close to us that was eardrum piercing at times making it uncomfortable at times. I understand we're all out wanting to have a good time, but be respectful of other people. All solid surfaces meant no sound absorption to help soften the blow.
Our server was delightful. She was sweet and friendly, but unfortunately not trained on what's on the menu. I asked what kind of clam chowder they served and she was not even aware there were different types. I will give her credit for asking me the difference, so I gave her a little lesson at the table - they have New England by the way. This should be something ownership/management should be training their employees to know - OR printing right on the menu.
The food was good. One person had the Classic Fish Fry and said it was "alright." One had the Cod Tacos and said they were real good. I had the Blackened Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. The sandwich was a little spicier than expected but still good, although now that I'm looking at the menu description I see that mine was missing both the lettuce and tomato. That certainly would have added to the flavor profile. The Sweet Potato Fries are really good. They are cut larger than standard fries but not quite the size of steak fries. This really let you taste the actual potato, versus the skinny way most places cut them. We also split an order of Cuban Rolls. These are amazing. Great flavor and texture. Oh yea - I DID have a cup of Clam Chowder to start. It wasn't bad. Nothing fabulous, but definitely the start you want...
Read moreThis was a surprising gem in the country (I know that's relative). The fact their parking lot is hardly ever empty should be telling enough. Atmosphere: more space on the inside than it looks, but it can get packed very quick. A fair amount of regulars and newcomers. They have TVs and music on that are not at a distracting volume. The loudness will come as it gets more customers, usually paralleling as the night goes on. Still a very friendly scene where I made four sets of friends within two hours at the bar. Staff: Very polite, they admit what they know (or don't) and are not pushy at all. They each were genuine in treating everyone well, checking your drinks and food at a good rotation. Drinks: The amount of whiskey is stunning...even more than some upscale locations in Milwaukee proper, with some exclusive bottle deals. If you're within decent driving range their whiskey club is worth checking out (they are considering tequila club but there are fewer fans out this way) Food: their fish fry has been bragged about and is on my list. Went for the jambalaya. Great flavor and balance of meat and vegetables. (If you are from Louisiana, order something else cause this ain't your roots jambalaya but a good modern restaurant dish). I am intrigued to try more as time goes on since other dishes were given and smelled nice. Good portions for the price as well. UPDATE: try some wings as a takeout order. Good, standard size wings. For the takeout I do recommend the carrots in the celery be placed apart from the container because they can get warm as you're traveling home with the wings. Sauces on the wings were good but didn't sing of a unique flavor. Very good flavor in the dipping...
