The LampLighter is on Fetzner Rd, in Creekside Plaza, on the corner with Maiden Lane. You are not likely to go there for the first time on a whim. Its location is not on a major road, or somewhere else that gets a lot of traffic for shopping and entertainment. This is shame, as the LampLighter is a wonderful place with good service, tasty food, and fine drinks.
Yesterday the wife and I went there for dinner. We started the dinner with perfectly made Manhattan cocktails. Warm rolls and spiced olive oil were soon brought to the table. The oil was wonderful, and we did not leave a drop of it in its serving bowl.
Our appetizer was a savory "Sampler Platter for 2" which had spicy calamari, clams casino, and arancini. It was served hot, and we enjoyed it all.
Because we have been married for so long that our tastes have merged into one, we both ordered the special, which was seafood Portofino. The dish included lobster, shrimp, scallops, and artichoke hearts over linguini in a white wine butter sauce. It was delicious. The portion size was perfect: we had plenty to eat but did not have to cart around containers of left-overs for the remaining part of our night out.
There were several tempting desert choices, and we split a piece of carrot cake. The carrot cake was moist and flavorful. The icing was a delight, and there was not so much of it on the cake as to overwhelm the other flavors.
We frequent the LampLighter several times per year, and they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLamplighter is a very special restaurant to me - it was where I had my wedding rehearsal dinner many years ago. My husband and I make an effort to attend whenever they are serving their German menu, which I found out is now only served in October. Last week, my husband and I took our little toddler there to celebrate an anniversary, and as always we had a lovely time.
Their French onion soup was absolutely delicious, and even our toddler enjoyed a few bites. The crab bisque and calamari were excellent - my husband particularly loved the spicy kick added to the calamari. My husband also loved his Bolognese entree, though I was a little disappointed in the seafood special that I ordered (I can't remember the name - it wasn't bad, just a little boring, needed more lemon/acid). I should have ordered my usual walnut encrusted salmon - that dish is to die for.
For dessert, their creme brulee was perfection though the flourless chocolate torte was a little dry. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. I can't wait for October to come for the return of their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe used to get takeouts from here frequently a few years back and always good. So we said hey itās been a few years since we tried lamplighter so letās go for dinner. Seated right away and greeted by a very nice waitress (forget name - red hair). Wine was good. Soup was very good. As for the chicken French the worst, breading fell off the underside of the chicken and virtually no taste. No wine no lemon no taste. When you canāt make chicken French, Iām worried about the other items on the menu. Owner was friendly but walked away during a conversation and never said excuse me. Also another lady not a waitress (possibly restaurant manager) looked at us then looked away and never asked how the meal was. Kinda strange vibe going on. To be honest the highlight of our meal was our waitress.
Reply to owner: Tuesday night, waitress did come back and asked how the meal was, told her it was good, it definitely was you the owner and your chicken French might be delicious but that night it needed help. But after reading your reply not sure if my...
