Where do I start? This restaurant is a unique and elegant dining experience in the last place you would expect to find it... Poolville NY. As a native of Earlville, I find the Country Store to be somewhat out of the ordinary for the area. With that being said, I am glad it is so close. I took my fiancee there for her Birthday recently. The atmosphere is classy and comfortable. Simplicity and elegance are what you notice walking into the dining area. Everything from the food, to the furnishings are perfectly balanced. The music playing in the background was loud enough to hear it if you sit and listen, but quiet enough to where we could have a private conversation and whisper to each other when we wanted without being overheard. We started dinner with a beer and a chardonnay (which came from a wine menu of various selections for different tastes and price ranges). Our appetizers were pork pot stickers and the flatbread du jour, which ended up being sausage and cheese. The sausage was wonderful, just a hint of spice, but finished sweet, unlike any sausage I have ever tasted. We ordered the sirloin steak and lobster mac and cheese for dinner. Me, having traveled to Maine a couple of times, am extremely picky about lobster. I normally refuse to eat lobster anywhere but in Maine. The quality, flavor and texture just isn't the same outside of Maine. After trying the lobster, I was delightfully surprised. Surely the best lobster I have ever had outside of Maine. Blended perfectly into a homemade penne mac and cheese. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy served with a homemade steak sauce which was delightfully sweet and a little tangy. Even the vegetables on the side were fresh, delicate and perfect. For dessert we ordered applecrisp and the cheesecake du jour which was a white chocolate cheesecake topped with a homemade berry sauce. I cannot say enough how perfect everything was. I did not know food could be such an amazing experience. Prepared fresh with local ingredients, perfectly blended and expertly prepared. The service was knowledgeable, freindly, payed attention to detail and perfectly complimented our entire experience. Surely the best dining experience of our lives so far. This place is well worth the adventure to find, tucked away in a true country setting. Confidently a 5 start rating from us!! Check it out and find out for yourself. There was so much more that we enjoyed that is simply too...
Read moreWe won this in a silent auction and were not sure what we were in for. After a very scenic drive including a side trip to the Finger Lakes Wine Region, we arrived in Poolville. Tentatively we entered and were greeted by Roger and Charles. Two guys who were very confident in their business. And for GOOD reason. The "suite" was the cutest and cleanest ever. Around 180 years old but modern enough for cool and comfort. The dining room was spoless and the fresh food to die for. An extensive menu that was full of freshness and flavour. Breakfast was fresh fruit from their garden and a wonderful coffee loaf fresh from the oven. WHY has nobody found this place?? This should be on anyone's New York State Getaways. Only 5 hours from Toronto. Come on people. What more...
Read moreMy husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner last evening, and have had consistently spot-on meals here over the 12 years since we've lived in Central New York. I truly believe anyone/everyone who enjoys food should find a way to dine here on a regular basis, even if only once a season. The efforts the chef-owners put into locally sourcing (and growing) the ingredients are complemented by a thoughtfully curated wine list; the fact that this establishment exists in the wonderful middle-of-nowhere is a clear example of why dining in CNY is an amazingly unparalleled experience. As a transplanted Manhattanite, there may be a small part of me that misses the varied dining options at any hour any day of the week, but none of that is even a thought when we are en route to this...
