I had a very bad experience at Fresh Fried Friday today.
I ordered three items: • Small curry goat with white rice • Jerk chicken with well-fried chicken and rice & peas (I was told they were out of rice & peas, so I accepted white rice) • Small rasta pasta with chicken
After I paid, I waited 45 minutes for the rasta pasta. At no point was I told that the pasta would take that long. I wasn’t informed it wasn’t ready, or that my other two meals would be made first, then sit in the back and get cold waiting for the pasta to be done.
By the time I got my food, only the rasta pasta was freshly made. The other two meals were cold. I asked for a refund or some kind of acknowledgment, and was told the kitchen was busy and “sorry.”
Communication is key in customer service. If I had known up front, I could’ve made an informed decision—but that choice was taken from me. My money was taken, and my time was wasted.
I didn’t ask for my money back—I just asked for a bottle of water so I didn’t feel like my time was completely wasted, and thankfully that was given. But overall, this was a very unprofessional experience.
As a Black American, I genuinely try to support Black-owned businesses. But when we’re not treated with the same respect we expect from other businesses, it’s hard not to feel disappointed. We have to hold each other to a higher standard.

But the rudeness I just experienced on the phone was completely unnecessary. Picking up the call, & asking what I would like then immediately saying NO! WE CLOSE AT 9! Is nasty work especially on Juneteenth of all days. Work on your customer service your food is not that good to be speaking to people like that real talk. Now I remember why I stopped supporting this place. Thank you for the reminder. There is a way to speak to people & that wasn’t it. Shame on whoever that woman was that answered the phone. Read moreI was so pleasantly surprised when I walked in and was greeted by a beautiful smile and a warm welcome. Most Caribbean restaurants are not nice at all. The lady was helping other customers and gave me time to figure out what we wanted since it was my first time there. She took our order and told me that the fish is made fresh to order so I'd have a wait. I was perfectly fine with that. As I waited, I really enjoyed the gospel music and appreciated hearing her sing along. The food was so very delicious my rice and peas and fish was generous. When I couldn't decide which cole slaw I wanted, she gifted me one so I could try them both. My son loved the flavor of his ox tails. He could've had a more meat than bone, but that would be my only complaint. I'll definitely go back and definitely recommend them to others.
