We are visiting in LaCrosse for the weekend and Friends took us here for dinner last night. What great food and an adorable quaint restaurant. It is Norwegian themed, with a huge wood carved knome in the entry and their slad bar is also a wood carved viking ship. They have daily specials. And on Fridays they have a few to choose from. One being, chicken and/or cod, which is what I went for (mostly because I couldn't decided). You get a choice of white or dark meat chicken and battered or baked cod. The food was excellent!! The chicken had a light crispy batter and the meat was extremely moist and tender. The cod too had a light crispy batter and the fish was tender and fresh (no fishy, old or have been sitting around flavor). The meals come with their soup and salad bar. They offered vegetable beef barley and seafood chowder soups. I had the vegetable beef barley, a hearty soup with tons of both vegetables and beef, with wonder flavor. Others that were with me had the seafood chowder and said it was so good that others went up for a second helping of soup just to try it and they too said it was amazing and glad they tried it. The salad bar has many fresh salad offerings, it includes pasta and potato salads, coleslaw, as well as some puddings and cherries. Others in my group had chicken strips (a ton of them I might add), walleye, baked cod, baked potatoes and everyone raved about how great their meals were. Our server was friendly, attentive and patient. We had a larger group and although we had 6pm reservations, one couple arrived about 15 after and she went with the flow and freshed drinks and asked if anyone had questions about the menu while we/she waited for everyone to arrive. They have plenty of parking. They have outdoor seating from what I understand, however, in November in WI, no one would want to utilize that. They had plenty of gluten-free options. And some of the pasts dishes could definitely work for vegetarians if ordered without the...

Read moreWe had a terrible dinning experience. Dylan was our waiter and honestly he was very unprofessional and acted like he didn't want to be there. He was no where to be found most of the meal and he never refilled drinks or even water glasses that were empty placed at the edge of the table. The tenderloin tips we're bad. Some rare, some medium, some medium well. The mashed potatoes were cold the shrimp was bad and thin. The cod was tough. Clearly frozen and then cooked improperly. Not flakey at all. All of the food was cold. The salad bar wasn't that impressive either. I have never had a meal where every item lacked any seasoning or flavor.
It all tatsed like nothing, it was so bland and strange. Crazy since the menu says the tips are the "Number 1 selling item for 48 years" that made them famous. Also expensive for the terrible quality.
No one asked how our meal was the entire time including Dylan, who just tossed the leather bill on our table and didn't say a single word. I have literally never experienced a waiter in my life toss the bill at you and not say anything like "Have a nice night or thanks for coming." The host or manager did not ask us how anything was either and they did not say anything as we left. For the last time... Watching customers leave never to return and tell their friends about the experience.
This place better get a new chef and new wait staff soon or they will have zero customers when word spreads in a small community about their lack of quality. Especially in an area with plenty of nicer supper clubs within a few miles with superb quality at a fraction of the price. Very...
