Service here is a little confusing if you show up without a line, but easy enough to figure out. Service was a bit slow compared to other places I’ve been, but the staff is really friendly and willing to answer any questions I had about the food. We were second in line and beat the dinner rush so the slowness was fine by me. Lines build pretty easily though as a result.
Got the brisket and pork combo with an add on of 2 ribs. Person I was with got the dark meat chicken and coleslaw so I got to try those as well.
Ribs - Delicious and probably the best thing I got as a whole.
Pork - The top half was good, especially when paired with the tangy mustard sauce they have. The bottom half of the serving I got was drenched in fat/grease/oil and I didn’t end up finishing it.
Brisket - Chopped really fine and completely coated in grease/fat. Likely the worst brisket I’ve ever had. I ended up throwing it out. It reminded me a bit of food I’ve fed my cat. I see other pictures with whole pieces of brisket that looks good, so my group may have just gotten the bottom of the barrel left overs.
Chicken - Seemed solid based on the bite I stole. Not as good as the rib or the first half of my pork, but still good.
Potato Salad - Mayo based. I liked it, but it needed salt which is provided on the tables.
Corn Bread - Dry and crumbly. Once I bit into it the whole thing fell apart. Flavor was okay, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Edible unlike the brisket, but not great.
Coleslaw - Good flavor, but way too liquidy and mushy. Texture was terrible. I think the cabbage was shredded too finely.
If it wasn’t so far away I’d consider coming back again in hopes of getting a different batch of food since the ribs and first half of the pork was good. As it stands if I’m in the area I’d consider swinging by for another visit, but I wouldn’t take a...
Read moreWow! How have I waited so long to try this place? I didn't think you could find barbecue this good north of the mason-dixon line. The big-box option is half a chicken, two ribs and choice or brisket or pulled pork (with two sides). I went with the brisket to try all three meats and I'm not sure what was my favorite. Everything was amazing. The chicken was huge and juicy. The ribs fell off the bone (you can add 2 more and I recommend it) and the brisket just melted in my mouth. They also add all the sauce you want to it while their making your plate and have a few choices (reg, hot, tangy). I added all three. Partner got the pulled Carolina pork with some sauces too and that was also fantastic. Only down side was I didn't want to move for a while after I finished and wanted to beach myself.
They have tons of parking and picnic tables that go on for a 100 yards. Many with trees for shade. All the workers were very friendly and fast.
Bonus of deserts - They have Key-lime pie and the first bite will make you think you're in Florida. Definitely a must-stop / destination drive. Only open half the year, but open all...
