5/12/13 Mother's Day buffet. Had to ask for napkins for our table of 8 (none on the table) ended up asking 5x before everyone got a napkin. Had to request water for about half the table as waitress nly filled some glasses initially. When we went for food at the buffet we had to request plates be brought out, Dishes of food were empty and not refilled despite that we were there in the middle of the hours for the buffet. The same happened with the dessert buffet, When I asked wait staff to check kitchen about refilling buffet they just shrugged and said kitchen was doing their best. Paper toels in ladies room not in dispenser but large rollon counter counter soaking wet. When I complained waitress stated they had people come without reservations. I stated we had reservations and had expected to have a full buffet to choose from. Wait staff refilled one person's water but did not offer to other people at the table. the same with coffee. Windy cool day and allowed children to run in and out of outside door in main dining room with no consideration for cold breeze coming in the door to people seated at tables. I don't ever remember spending such a significant amount on a buffet to get such terrible service and terible access to the food offerings. BE sure I will not return nor will the rest of us and we will...
Read moreDo you enjoy paying $200 a night to stay at a sub-mediocre motel? Then Esperanza Mansion may be right for you. Without any indication we were being put in the Esperenza “Inn” and paying more than any rate advertised for the “Inn” we were directed to a sad-looking two-level structure built into a hill next door to the mansion. The rooms are Spartan – a bed, a phone, a couple of chairs, and a 16” CRT TV circa 1985. Each room on the upper level has a “balcony” with no chairs that is one foot away from the balcony of the adjoining rooms without any privacy and which overlooks the parking lot for the lower level. For the free continental breakfast (also Spartan – Motel 6 does better) you need to walk outdoors – an issue when it is pouring as it was when we stayed there. The front desk is obviously inured to complaints about their “bait and switch” practice – the manager is not there but will call you (he or she won’t). The front desk will also helpfully advise you that there are no swimming beaches nearby (there is one less than a mile away) or direct you to closed restaurants. One can see why this is a popular destination for weddings, but if you are not in a wedding, don’t stay here. And, to repeat, the Esperanza “Inn” is a bad choice even if you are in a...
Read moreNew Years Eve dinner, epic fail. We had terrible service, only 2 servers for 20 tables, 100+ guests. We were seated quickly for our 7:30 reservation, then not approached again for 40 minutes. The only 2 servers were working their tails off! We were only were asked once for cocktails, good thing we had foresight to order a bottle of sparkling wine. We had a party of 4, didn’t have a hard order, and we were trying to be patient. While the food was good, it was lukewarm when served, bread came out (finally) hour & 15 minutes after...by the time our entrees came out- we applauded (seriously!)... Others were equally left waiting, too. Guests kept leaving their tables & going to the bar for drinks & water refills. But interesting, the couple next to us(seated right after us) finished their meals with desserts 1/2 hour before we got our entrees! How does that even happen? 2 hrs & 15 minutes after we arrived we finally got our entrees. Asked for to-go packages, was too late to eat. By then the hired DJ was cranking up the party music & as the bar partiers descended upon the cavernous dining room, created even more of an echo than before. No apologies from waitstaff or management. Epic fail, Esperanza. You could have given us a decent dinner memory, but no. Would...
