Was in town visiting family this weekend. Our original plan was to head to Connecticut for dinner but that did not happen. Then our second idea was to go to a different place for dinner but as we arrived, they had closed at 9:00. So the other parties decided that we should come to La Famiglia. Boy what a mistake that was, at least in my opinion.
We sit at a table in the main dining room, the server was a young gentleman who was friendly. We had mozzarella stix, (frozen from a bag)eggplant rollatini, decent. Sole Francaise was ok. The ravioli and meatballs were fair. The ravioli definitely frozen. The meatballs looked really weird and grey in color. I had the rib eye special. It came with a horseradish cream sauce, mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, and mixed veg. The vegetables were definitely frozen from a bag. The mashed potatoes were horrible. Definitely instant potatoes from a box. Bland and tasteless. The steak was tough and chewy. How can you charge over twenty dollars for a meal and not even make fresh mashed potatoes?
The band they had playing was pretty good. We didn't have dessert. This is a place for the locals and the drinkers. Not a spot to bring out of town guests looking for an upper class evening. I live four hours away so I won't ever be back. Even if I did live in this area, I still...
Read moreThis used to be a neighborhood fave of mine, but I can no longer eat gluten. They're the only Italian restaurant here in Carmel + surrounding towns (that I frequent) that don't offer any gluten-free options. All the other italian restaurants have a minimum of gluten-free pizza and gluten-free pasta. Dante's can fix you anything under the sun gluten-free (chic parm, chic francese, pasta dishes including ravioli, pizza, etc...) and it's delicious. Aversanos can modify most-all of their dishes. They did an outstanding chicken francese w/out the flour and offered a side of GF pasta. Plus, they offer the usual GF pizza & varying pasta dishes. Prato, as well. I just had a delicious GF penne alla vodka with pancetta & grilled chicken from there. To die for. Where else... Oh! Europa, Four Brothers, Arturos, and if you wanna venture off into Northern Westchester, Traditions 118. Such a shame; I miss La Famiglia. It's a really nice restaurant, nice staff, delicious food, and super close to where i live... but they're behind in meeting the needs of their community. If they improve their accommodations, I'll improve my...
Read moreMe and my GF decided to try out the new restaurant that used to be a sleezy bar. And I have to say it was really good food. The dinning area was nice and food was amazing. I had a rib eye stake and stuffed soal with broccoli and french fries ( medium rare) that was actually medium rare. Most places over cook there steak.. and the soal was real not frozon and the stuffing was good. Broccoli was fresh too. My GF had shrimp and scallops in a butter white wine sauce with noodles which was very good how ever there was only 4 shrimp and they cut the scallops into pices. Alil stingy on the seafood for a $20 dish mine was $25. The waitress was really young and dident know much.. bur the only thing that's a downer about the restaurant is the bar. Its wwaayy too loud and sitting down enjoying a good meal while listening to limp bizkit and linkin park isent my idea of dining.. the bar unfortunately kills the experience. But again surprisingly enough for really good food worth the wait worth...
