Went to High Shores last night with 3 others to celebrate a retirement. What a disaster. Was actually seated immediately upon arrival but once we sat down...it took at least 15 minutes before our waitress came over to get the drink order. I ordered a gin and tonic with a lemon..not a lime. Didn't actually get the drinks for probably another 20 minutes. When they came, I had a lime. I had three of them and each time requested the lemon...every time it showed up with a lime. Then it was maybe another 20-25 minutes before they came back to take the appetizer order. That showed up in reasonable time but everyone at the table just looked at each other with what was put down. We ordered the seafood mushroom caps...there were 5 of them on the plate and the largest was no larger than a quarter and the others about the size of a nickle. I wish I was kidding when I say that, I'm not. And that cost $12, crazy. We also ordered the calamari and it too was sparse on the plate. I wish I had taken a picture of the appetizers and could add them to this post. I am not one of those people who rate restaurants on how much they pile on a plate to determine if its a good place or bad but that was just ridiculous. To make matter's worse, we had ordered our entree's and after maybe another 20 minutes the waitress came back to tell one person...we are out of the chicken kiev..she then ordered a pasta. Another person ordered the daily special, a thick cut porkchop with some kind of stuff on it. When he cut into it, it was completely raw inside...not rare..raw. Sent it back to get cooked more and after 5 minutes when it came back it was only slightly more cooked. I cook thick cut porkchops at home and have never done what was on that plate last night. We had sat down at approx 6pm and left just before 9pm. I have no issue paying for a great meal, but whoever thinks 5 mushrooms is worth $12 and a thin average 8oz ribeye is worth $36 is a brave person. When we left we all said we'd never come back which is sad because we need this kind of place in the area but not if this...
Read moreFirst time here on Sunday 5/28. We didn't plan ahead, so walked in without a reservation. We were asked if we had been helped, said no, and said that they would get the hostess over to help us. Waited about 10 minutes before that finally happened. Was told the wait for a "non dining room" table would be about 45 minutes possibly earlier. So we got on the list and gave our phone number and they said they would call when our table was ready. We went outside and hung out down by the water while waiting. A full 45 minutes had gone by and still no call so we went in to see what the deal was, and they stated they had tried to call us... well our phone never rang, and if they did call us, we would've been inside seeking our table before waiting the full 45 minutes. We were seated by the bar, our waitress was super nice and friendly. Salad bar was AMAZING- with two soups and a variety of salad options, toppings, other salads, etc. I really enjoyed it. When we were seated, we were told food would be at least 20 minutes... okay time to enjoy our salads, not a problem. It was 40/45 minutes before our food arrived. I got the chicken cordon blue for an entrée, and my husband initially ordered the haddock dinner, but they were out so got beer battered walleye, and we both got the duchess potatoes. Those are super good also! My meal was excellent... had amazing flavor, really really liked the "cream sauce" that they add to the dish. Hubby didn't really care for his- claimed his batter was soggy, and it was apparent as he tried to cut into it... it basically fell right off, and didn't stay on very well. :( Maybe it was our fault that we came on a busy holiday weekend (with no reservation)-- but I'd totally like to go back again (with a reservation, so I can sit in the "dining area" and enjoy the views. I would visit again and totally say a great place for a nice dinner, date night, or outing with...
Read moreMy husband and I just moved to the area and my parents wanted to take us to one of their favorite spots for a fish fry, needless to say we were all disappointed. We had a reservation at 7:15 pm and we were not seated until 8 pm. The waitress was nice brought complimentary cheese curds to the table for delay which helped keep our 18 month occupied until dinner. However dinner never came. We waited over an hour for our fish fry. Tables that were seated after us received their food before us and were leaving. The manager touching tables and our waitress told us multiple times that our food would be right out. Finally we had enough and asked what was going on. The manager said our order went in 20 minutes ago…we had already been seated for 45 minutes. When I told her we put our order in almost an hour ago she started getting defensive. My family and I could not wait any longer as it was now 9:15 pm and our food was still not out. We ended up leaving and apologizing to our waitress. A manager then ran after us to apologize for the evening explaining what happened and offered to send us gift certificates to make up for the experience. She took our address and told us she would even call the next day. We never received a phone call and never received the certificates. If anything I feel bad for the hostess, they clearly did not have any support and looked frantic all night. If your kitchen is having problems own up to it, don’t sit and argue with the paying customers. I would have definitely given this place a second chance because I loved the view and they have a great vibe, but the fact there was no follow through on what was promised clearly shows that our experience was not just...
