Pure Joy! What an unexpected delight here in the northwoods! I love wine but have been disappointed at the selection at area restaurants which serve a lower quality wine that’s packaged in single serve bottles so you can imagine my exuberance in learning there wasn’t just 1 or 2 options for red wine but a page and a half on their drinks menu! I’ve tried the martini too and I’m not sure which I enjoy more! The food is worthy of a reservation-only restaurant in a large metropolitan area like Chicago. I’ve dined here several times and have yet to be disappointed nor do I expect to be. Every dish I’ve ordered has surpassed my expectations. The appetizers have been refreshing change to the tired starters I’ve seen. The Italian sausage stuffed mushrooms was incredible even though I’m not a fan of Italian sausage. The spinach artichoke dip was so delicious that it was all I could do to keep myself from forgetting all manners and licking the plate clean! Seriously! My favorite -so far- has been the lettuce wraps. Ground chicken with an Oriental flair served in delicate lettuce leaves. Again, an unexpected delight! The soup is spectacular! I recommend their French Onion but the Cremini mushroom was fabulous also! There’s interesting twists on their salad dressings too like the apple cider vinaigrette which offers a pinch of sweetness to your salad or the honey balsamic dressing with multiple layers of flavor, though my favorite is the avocado ranch. They also have a varied array of entrees to choose from not just the same ol meat prepared in different ways and offered as another choice on a boring menu. I’m talking about mahi-mahi, walleye, shrimp so large that I couldn’t finish 6 of them, ribs served either barbecued or with an Asian twist, chicken prepared in several ways and never dried out, pork chops, salmon and steaks. Make sure to leave room for dessert! Upon the recommendation of our server, Lisa, we sampled the chocolate decadence cake with a glass of port wine. She deserves a raise! Wow! What a combination! I’m not sure when my tastebuds have been happier! To summarize my review... go to Redman’s, you’ll be delighted! Go with friends so you can...
Read moreAsana Suka was an awesome surprise! I was told the owner/chef there was great about preparing vegan options, and the menu also looked very interesting for non-vegan guests. They had some nice wines available, and we all had a drink while waiting for appetizers. We had the Botanical Fungo (vegan -- AWESOME) and the The Goat and His Grape (non-vegan but all the others raved about it) and the Figs in a Blanket, equally enjoyed. For the main courses, there were a number of interesting sides to choose from including the "gnocchi of the day" (citrus butter), sautéed cabbage, and other typical choices. It was great to see different and unusual options. Half the party had the Milanese Crusted Walleye, some claiming "absolute best they ever had". One had the Dating a Svinja (pork) which looked great, and two of us had an impromptu option put together by the Chef -- a vegan pasta option with sautéed vegetables and cashew cream sauce that was out of this world, especially given almost zero warning I wanted a vegan option. The desserts were a choice of different ice cream sundaes which huge and enjoyed by all be me, so for vegan option I had a generous pour of 20 year tawny port. :)
All the portions were huge and we will clearly have another meal from the take home. I found it to be a very good value overall. The place was nicely updated, very clean, including the bathrooms and overall classy and welcoming. The staff was extremely friendly, the owner very accommodating, and the server Jazz was perfect, even though it was her first day!
It's hard to find outstanding meals in the north woods with good service, and nearly impossible to add vegan to that need. This will become my new go-to place for sure. Do yourself a...
Read moreAsana Suka "to sit in happiness" - Land 'O Lakes is a fine dining experience in the Northwoods. Located near the Wisconsin/ Michigan border on Hwy 45, you'll find the historic restaurant with new owners Jake & Emily ready to take great care of you and create and serve you fresh, made from scratch meals. We started with Crab Rangoon ala Asana Suka style...soft flaky pastry stuffed with lump crab and cream cheese, we loved them. For dinner, she had the Milanese Crusted Walleye served with golden mashed potatoes and the house salad served with a refreshing blueberry dressing. The crispy panko encrusted fillet was large and prepared to perfection - possibly the best walleye in the Northwoods. I tried the glazed Norwegian salmon - delicious, however the triple citrus glaze was slightly over done for my taste. The salmon was excellent though. Our server Andrea was attentive and happy to serve. Jake was very communicative, while scheduling our reservation, even though this was a slower time of the year. A glass of 7 Falls and a classic "Wisconsin in a glass", Brandy Old Fashioned were perfect compliments to a delicious and memorable experience at Asana Suka. Give Emily & Jake a visit the next time you want to celebrate a outstanding Northwoods dining experience, I know...
