We ate here as a family on 9/28/22 celebrating our anniversary. We were greeted with the specials including a thick aged ribeye and the vegetable of the day was brussel sprouts. Sounded great. A good friend says this place is his "go to" in the area when he comes snowmobiling several times each winter. My husband & I ordered the ribeyes w/brussel sprouts and our mouths were watering just thinking about it. I ordered mine (as I have my whole life) "medium well...done but not burnt...slightly pink on the inside is okay but absolutely no black crispy outside." The waitress, who was otherwise great at her job, replied "do you want me to write down 'medium to medium well'?" I said, "No. Just medium well...done but not burnt please." My husband ordered his medium. My steak was absolutely charred on the outside - disgusting black and crunchy - and rare on the inside, bleeding. My husband's "medium" was practically raw on the inside. I was sure it would walk off his plate! I almost vomited. Our brussell sprouts were the same! Charred - burnt to a crisp on the outside and raw on the inside and tasted like they were soaked in plain vinegar. I told the waitress my steak was the exact opposite of what I ordered & she said, "I don't know what we can do about that but I'll check." She was apologetic, though. She came back to tell me that the "chef" told her cooking it any further would result in more charring burnt outside! That it couldn't be cooked medium well without burning the outside! I had to change my order! Disappointed is putting it mildly. I ordered the walleye as a replacement. It was delicious (but I had my heart set on the steak!) We have talked about our disappointment every day since then and waited until our return back home to write this review so it wouldn't be based on emotion only. Now if a "chef" cannot cook a steak medium well without burning the outside (never had a chef NOT be able to do it my whole life!) I'd doubt he's an actual "chef." I've never heard any cook say such a thing. We cook our own food and can do it. Every single time. The waitress was very nice, but we would not recommend this place unless you like raw meet on your plate, because this "chef" can't cook it any other way - burnt to a crisp or raw. Those are the choices here. And for over $200 for dinner we expect to be...
Read moreThe Bear Trap Inn: A journey back to Wisconsin supper club paradise the Bear Trap In truly embodies the spirit and tradition of a classic Wisconsin supper club, offering an evening that feels less like dinner and more like a cherished ritual. From the moment you step in, the ambiance evokes a sense of nostalgia, with the warm glow of low lighting and the comfort of plush seating. The evening began with a carefully crafted drink in the bar area. The bartender's expertise in preparing my cocktail of choice was evident, served in a classic heavy-bottomed glass. While sipping my cocktail, conversations with fellow patrons at the lively bar felt effortless, creating a sense of community that is a hallmark of the supper club experience. The dining room, though busy, maintained a comfortable intimacy. The menu, a testament to classic American fare, offered tempting choices from steak and seafood to the quintessential Friday night fish fry. After a brief wait, which allowed for more conversation and anticipation, orders were taken by the friendly and efficient server, Maddie. The meal began with some delicious cheese curds and Tomato Bisque setting the stage for the culinary journey (highly recommend soaking your curds in the bisque). My entree arrived hot and artfully presented. The Pork Ribeye rumored to be a specialty, exceeded expectations, cooked medium-rare and boasting flavor and tenderness. The side dish of Parmesan Risotto was absolutely AMAZING and was suggested by Madi. Even with generous portions, the meal concluded with a huge piece of homemade Carrot Cake. It was a fitting end to a memorable meal, and a testament to the supper club tradition. Bear Trap In. delivers on the Wisconsin supper club experience, combining delicious food, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere that invites guests to enjoy the company of friends and family or even by yourself 😉. Guests will certainly return for another taste of this tradition. Thank you Madi for yet another excellent dinning experience and always being...
