We were VERY disappointed and we do not recommend the Black Oak Inn at all. There are much better places in the area. We were first time customers and we went there for a Fish Fry on 8/20/21 and the service started out good, waitress seemed nice, but everything quickly went downhill after. We got our drinks and my husband ordered All-You-Can-Eat battered cod, my daughter & I had the baked cod. After we placed our drink and dinner order our waitress never returned. We ran out of drinks - and we tried to flag our waitress down - but she never looked our way again - we saw her waiting on other tables, bringing drinks to them she was walking around the dinning room, behind the bar etc. but she never checked in with us again. My husband had to go up to the bar to get another drink for us and shortly after our dinner came, it was brought out by another person. Our baked cod was good - but my husband received 2 pieces of fish with his "Al You Can Eat" battered cod dinner.. when he cut into the first piece it was gray / hard and just really gross - so he started eating the 2nd piece of battered cod which was better. Our waitress never came back to see how everything was, or to see if my husband wanted any more fish since it was all you can eat. So he had a 1 piece fish dinner that was mediocre at best. The service really was terrible - When we were ready to go my husband had to get up and go get our waitress to ask for our bill. When she came over to check us out with the tablet I told her we were very disappointed and she just smirked and said sorry and did not say anything else - like she did...
Read moreI really can't say enough good things about the "new" Black Oak Inn. The current owners have now run Black Oak for approximately 2 years now, and I really love how they've upgraded the experience. The lighting is more inviting, the bar is beautiful, the service is friendly, and the food is outstanding. We tried the Friday Fish Fry last night for the first time. It was surprisingly good while being prepared slightly differently from the usual batter one would find in the Northwoods area. This was more of a light panko or cracker crust style, but it was still crisp, and the fish was still tender and flaky on the inside. Not a HINT of dry fish here! The salad bar is small, but mighty! Big shout out to the pea salad! All of us loved it! Also, the cheese curds rival the best in the area. I know that's saying a lot, but it is true!
Aside from that, they have a pool table, darts, games for the kids (as well as slots for the adults), and my new personal favorite, hammerschlagen! If you're unfamiliar, that's worth the trip by itself, in my opinion!
Black Oak Inn is becoming one of my favorite spots in the area. I highly...
Read moreI cannot even begin to express how amazing this establishment is…I heard there were new owners and since stopping I now know the atmosphere and attitude are above par each time I have visited. I’ve had multiple meals here and each is clearly made from scratch. I’ve lived in northern Wisco for most of my life and have never been able to answer where my favorite fish fry was…now I can. Grab the potato crusted walleye or perch, the blackened cod, the baked cod, the almond crusted walleye, or the AYCE…I struggle with choosing which one each week. Nick and his wife Aimee are so accommodating. They have kiddos and I love seeing them in and out of the dining room saying hi to everyone. It’s way too cute!! Wrick…I still haven’t figured out the “w”…he’s what I would call the “clutch” of the establishment. Without droning on, this place is a gem that Land O’ Lakes has been needing for so long. Their energy is something I want to visit each time I make it up here. Thank you Black Oak for crushing my visits each time I’m up. And the cheeseburgers...
