Let’s start with the positive—entire staff was very friendly. The AC in our seating section rivaled the best deep freeze and the hostess immediately turned it down to a comfortable level. Other than the well-meaning service, the rest of our experience was quite sub-par. It appears Twilight is suffering from the staffing shortage plaguing almost all businesses. Sufficeth to say the sweetheart endeavoring to tend bar was not up to what was apparently a Herculean challenge. Resisting our urge to jump over the bar and clear the 15-minute wait to order a round of cokes (in our case) or time-consuming old-fashioneds (properly made by scratch and poured into a rather generously sized goblet). Instead we marveled that this poor soul toiled without assistance in the highest margin section of the business. In our 30 minutes at the bar we witnessed no fewer than two groups depart after failing to secure a Friday libation at 7pm. But unfortunately, the worst part of our 90-minute sojourn was still to come, namely the food. The least worst of our order was the lake perch (available every day). I would estimate the size of the perch fillets to be that of jumbo shrimp, but I don’t want to insult the shrimp. The puny perch plate packed paltry piquancy and, alas, the tartar sauce somehow made things worse. The cole slaw was warm and the broccoli was cold. They were out of soup and the only two appealing appetizers on the menu: ahi tuna and portobello mushrooms were also unavailable. Finally, a member in our party of three went a cuisine direction I would not have advised and was rewarded with a fettuccine Alfredo that would have put an Italian grandmother in tears. (To clarify, I would never order pasta from (an overly large) menu at a Wisconsin supper club—there are plenty of family-owned restaurants that serve Italian food.) For anyone who has made Alfredo sauce at home, you know the secret is in the simplicity of the ingredients. At Twilight there was a mystery ingredient or three that turned the sauce into something resembling warm Cheez Whiz left on the counter for five minutes. On the ride home to Rhinelander I looked longingly at the many supper clubs we passed on our way to Twilight. We’ll be stopping at one of...
Read moreWe have never been disappointed here. We usually go with a small group (6). This time we had 4 adults and 2 grandkids (4&9). The service was very efficient, friendly and swift. The food was so good and varied. I had Shrimp Ravioli Alfredo with the salad bar (6.00 extra but well worth it. Very Wisconsin Supper Club, did I say Herring? Oh! And hot bacon dressing!) My son and DIL had the regular Friday Fish Fry. They were very impressed. My husband had the perch with clam chowder. He said the chowder was the best he's ever had. The Grands had Macaroni and cheese; and pizza. Our Grand-daughter said it was the best ever, even better than hot lunch!😜 Our Grand-son had a 14 inch pizza. His eyeballs just about popped out of his head when he saw it. He was very proud to say he ate 1/4 th of it. (He is, after all in 4th grade!) Oh, and two giant Root Beers in the old A&W mug that we all remember fondly! Of course, the Brandy Old Fashioned was EPIC! Served in a huge goblet! The martini straight up was fun. It was poured straight from the shaker table-side. Very cool! The after dinner Espresso Martini's were also served the same way and included 3 coffee beans to float. Very elegant. Our Grand-son and Grand-daughter were treated just like they should be. They loved that. The decor is always very classy but for October they are over the top Halloween! Emphasis on Dia de Muerte in a classy way! Easy to get to, ample parking...you should...
Read moreMy husband and I ate dinner here the other night and it was absolutely wonderful! We were staying in the Phelps area, and found something very local! We took the chance and when we got there, we were greeted by the owner, who shook our hands and brought us to our table. He was so nice and personable! Then, we were taken care of by Jackie (don’t know if I spelled her name correct!) she was so wonderful above and beyond. She explained everything very thorough and slowly and helped us with any questions we needed! She never rushed us and she guided us in which direction to order! Which, seems to me you can’t go wrong with what you order there because our food was TO DIE FOR and everyone else’s around us, looked equally as good! My husband and I ordered steak, and we were able to customize it any way we wanted! Which was so fun and made it so delicious! They also had a couple different specials going on and I wanted them all!! You also get a soup AND salad bar with your entree! Yum!!! Our experience was so great and we can’t wait to come to the north woods again to eat here! Also, when you go there, ask for Jackie! She was again, the best. So kind, nice, and helpful! She asked us many times what we thought of the food and if we needed anything else. I don’t think you could go wrong with and of the staff there though! They all seemed great! Thank you so much Twilight Supper Club for our fantastic...
