While the exterior appeared a little dingy, especially on a cold and rainy night, I found the inside to be clean, warm, and inviting. There is a big bar and plenty of seating, and the whole area is decorated in a quaint maritime theme.
My waitress was friendly and answered all my questions about the menu, happily going to the kitchen to find answers she didn't readily have. The service was not slow.
I started with the soup which was broccoli cheddar. It was beautifully smooth and creamy, not gloppy and starchy like at some places where soup is an afterthought. The broccoli flavor was fresh and punchy. It came with oyster crackers, which I'm a fan of.
My dinner was a nice slab of fresh salmon baked with a horseradish cream sauce on top. They did not hold back with the horseradish and I found the bold combination to be delightful. The garlic mashed potatoes were as delicious as the waitress described. The vegetable medley (an add on; the meal only came with a starch side) were a little soggy but acceptable.
I noticed some tables indulging in the prime rib special and it did look tasty.
Dessert left a bit to be desired. I asked for the caramel apple pie a la mode and was brought out a rather tiny slice. The filling was OK but had sort of homogenized, and the crust on the pie was just mush, indicating that it might have been around past it's prime. The cost for dessert was a whopping $7.50, and I could have done much better with that money at a local ice cream parlor.
Overall, dinner was great. The price for the main meal and soup were very competitive- I think the salmon with vegetables was around $20. I would definitely stop here again for dinner, and maybe just go somewhere else...
Read moreOne of the most disappointing meals ever. To preface, what kind of a restaurant serves dollar store brand ketchup & steak sauce? Clover Valley? You canât spring for name brand condiments for your establishment? Just unbelievably dissatisfied and will never return. Really wish I could say something positive, but the food here is awful. We spent 100+ and left very disappointed. The steak was terrible, not even sure how you can mess up a great cut like they did, but it was badly cooked & tasted equally bad. Veggies were bland and watery. Seafood was over cooked and everything else mushy. What blew our minds is a restaurant actually served dollar store condiments đł This place is on par with Dennys, but for triple the cost. The water also tastes like metallic or like antifreezeâŚguessing they may serve well water, which was off putting to all of us who tasted it. The positive reviews are perplexing, perhaps some people donât have standards or more discerning palettes. BUT, take a peek at the plenty of negative reviews! Someone else mentioned their water wasnât drinkable. And apparently the owner told the patron they couldnât drink their own water or would be charged?! WTH? Service wasnât great. Bathrooms are kind of nasty. Worthy of 1 star, not 5. Overpriced nasty food thatâs way too expensive. Owners should be embarrassed. Spring for name brand condiments at least. Offer a bottled water....
Read moreI had high hopes for Gone Coastal, but unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. I ordered the fish fry special, and as someone who has had incredible fish and chips from the New England coast, this was a disappointment. The fish was rubbery, overly oily, and lacked the fresh taste I was hoping for.
The atmosphere was just as underwhelming, an odd mix of dive bar and American seafood restaurant. The place was packed, seemingly a local favorite for snowmobilers, judging by the number of snowmobiles parked outside.
The one redeeming quality was the service. Our waitress was wonderful, especially given that we had a larger party, and she made sure we were well taken care of.
Overall, I wouldnât return. If you do decide to visit, Iâd recommend sticking to more classic American-style dishes like wings. Despite the name Gone Coastal, this is definitely more of an American-style eatery than a seafood...
