I didn’t feel like I was welcome. So my family and I were travelling and passed by this place. My mom has to work in the car for a while so my sister and I sat in the shop for 3ish jours reading books and doing school assignments. We bought 3 cups of coffee and a cheesecake.
The man at the counter (I don’t know if he was the owner or not) had a cold face towards us. At first I thought maybe that’s just his personality so I didn’t think too much about it. Later, some customers came and evidently they know the man at the counter, he a chatted with and greeted every one of them cheerfully. All this while he didn’t say anything to us except when I asked him where the bathroom is. Also there was always plenty of space in the shop, often my sister and I were alone.
Eventually he said “you guys can’t just sit here all day, you got to buy something.” Which made me feel very uncomfortable (especially because we DID buy stuff), like he thought we were nuisances. Then we got out, feeling like we accosted him by breathing air in his shop. I mean we did use his wifi a little and we flushed his toilet but that was it. We were not taking space away from other customers, we wore masks, stayed quiet, obeyed the rules, were polite etc. I can understand why he doesn’t want us there all day but he could ask a little more gently as to what were our plans and when we might leave (because we WERE planning to leave!), and you know like, greet us with a few sentences like he did with people he knew!
In short I felt a huge double standard in his hospitality towards locals versus towards us. I give two stars because it was a unique shop and the cheesecake was pretty good. Too bad this experience of rudeness ruined it. I don’t deny that other people probably had different, more positive experiences (look at the good reviews) but this was just my experience and it...
