Holly cow this is a hidden gem!

If you're on a brewery / wine tour this is a must stop for one of the best smash burgers out there. Looks like just an ice-cream stand, but it's so much more!

Several sandwich options available (all of which looked great), but they have something special going with their smash burger.

The 'Smash Burger' is a juicy, "smash style" burger with the perfect seasoning blend (think Five Guys but so much better). I doubled it (2nd patty) for $3 - SO worth it - This may be the best burger I've ever had (and I will travel for a good burger). Just a perfect burger. Gooey cheese fills the crisp, yet juicy patty, a fresh, flavorful tomato and shredded lettuce, yes SHREDDED LETTUCE (there should be some sort of law standardizing this style of lettuce for a burger or sub). If I had room for another I would have gotten one. Half way through my burger I said I couldn't wait to make it back for another!

Dinning partner got the "patty melt" and said it was the best they've ever had (sautĂŠed onions, jalapeĂąos and a garlic mayo on grilled toast) - honestly, for a patty melt - it was extra special.

About 40 mins from Ithaca and if it was closer, my waist line would be in serious trouble. If you're a burger person, treat yourself. Very fair prices to downright cheap for what is basically a farm-to-table restaurant (they even list the farms the source from).

If it's your first time - it's attached to an ice-cream stand on it's left and it's easy to think that's all that's there while driving - the kitchen is a little back and to the right of the ice-cream stand (when looking from the road / on the west/lake...

I discovered Johnny's Kitchen in the summer of 2023, tucked away next to a highway ice cream stand in rural NY. Since then, we've found countless reasons to make the 40-minute drive to this hidden gem. The rotating menu features freshly made bread and unique sauces. Their incredible gluten-free bread is made in-house, and they offer excellent dairy-free options as well.

The hamburgers and chicken wings are amazing, and the fish fry is to die for. I typically don't order salads at restaurants, but after trying them here, I always make sure to get one. Their salads are made with locally sourced ingredients and are simply fantastic.

The food quality far exceeds the extremely affordable prices. As of summer 2024, $25-30 gets you a side, an entree, an appetizer to share, and even enough food for the next day's meal.

The only downside might be the long wait times, as the owners Johnny and Regan prepare everything themselves with a lot of love and hard work. But trust me, it's totally worth the wait. The owners and the employees are very very friendly and nice.

Can't recommend this place enough! If you are in the finger lakes region, this place is...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ At first, we seriously questioned our decision. My wife asked, “Where are we?” Her friend replied, “It has a 4.9 rating with 200 reviews!” I said, “Hey, sometimes the hole-in-the-wall spots are the best. Let’s give it a shot.” We were told it’d be a 40-minute wait for food—not a big deal since we had small kids and plenty of outdoor seating. But the smell? Rough. Like roadkill. Not exactly the most inviting first impression. We were all wondering what we’d gotten ourselves into… and then the food arrived. Suddenly everything changed. The fries? Amazing. The hamburger melt? Insanely good. The cucumber and tomato salad? So fresh and full of flavor. It was honestly kind of crazy how good it all was. Total redemption. Overall, 5 stars for a roadside joint. Friendly service (though a bit slow), but if they could get rid of that roadkill smell, the atmosphere would improve dramatically. Still, the food alone makes it worth the stop.

This little restaurant knows what it is, what it wants to be and follows this consistently. The menu is simple, straightforward ‘American food’ that is delicious and made and served with love. Owners John and Regan grew up in the finger lakes, southern tier area and spent some time in NYC working with industry professionals of the highest caliber and the upbringing and background is pleasantly obvious. The old ice cream parlor location on Seneca Lake is easy to find, pleasant to drive to and inside there’s a cute, cozy, comfortable, simple dining room. Lots of outdoor space too when the weather is cooperating. Currently serving lunch and dinner, brunch at weekends, Johnny’s is a rare gem in the area that serves good, consistent, approachable, all from scratch, comforting food at reasonable prices in a salubrious, welcoming environment. Please go and enjoy this restaurant.
