ShangriLa Campground & Marina
Found this beautiful, quaint spot while adventuring through New York, from Ontario, Canada. Marge, the manager was eager to greet and show off the amazing transformation of ShangriLa. Wonderfully spirited, full of humour, quick witted and down to earth, Marge was definitely the hostess with the mostest!!!! As the first, to stay in the new air bnb, I must say, it was beautiful, more than adequately stocked, comfortable, very clean and had a serene feeling. Kayaking along the shore of the bay, came next. Beautiful, clear water and many areas to treasure hunt along the shorelines. The plan for dinner was to barbecue chicken and make a salad, but the life of the newly re-opened restaurant was irresistible! Greeted by friendly staff, and easily chatting with many of the local people, I devoured the best traditional Clubhouse sandwiche I have had in years!! (And I am super picky with my food!) P.S. the restaurant IS licensed!! Lovely local people were so friendly and welcoming!! Thank you so much to Chris, Erin, Tito, Taylor, Jim, the handful of others I had the pleasure of meeting, and of coarse Marge, for making the stay perfect!!! I am happy to report that I have already pre-booked 2 weeks for next year!!
Now…if I didn’t leave a note regarding possible changes I would make, the general population would think my review is fake, so here’s my constructive criticism…. A beach was not listed; however, there are places to swim. It is not sand covered access, but rocks. Water shoes are not required, as the rocks are very rounded. A dock for jumping into the water would be fantastic for kids A volleyball and/or court area would be fabulous for families with teenagers Treats!! Ice cream, chocolate bars, chips and light snack foods would probably be a great add, for children who want a treat, and adults who forgot late night snacks!!! The sale of ice, firewood, and bug spray Wifi is definitely needed for the newer generation of kids
In saying all of this, it’s actually more business suggestions than criticism. Opening a business and completely re-doing it takes time, and prioritizing tasks is a must. Already, ShangriLa is wonderful. As I said, I’ve already booked my two weeks for next...
Read moreService was poor and extremely slow. Server took our order and never came back to check on us. And I mean never. Waited over an hour and then went to bar to get another drink still waited 10 min for someone there to serve me. Waited another 35 min and went to the bar again. Asked for manager, expressed my displeasur and was told kitchen short staffed. Complimentary round of drinks. Also had a 6 and 2 yr old who were super well behaved given the circumstances. Server still never checked on us 1 single time in the 90 minutes we sat there. I managed to call her over and discussed it with her and she exclaimed that it was not her fault. I said well you could have mentioned the issues with the kitchen staff. I'm sorry was the response but not my fault. Never a smile, just awful attitude. Also, never got a bowl or basket for my chix wing bones but did get a take out box. Too bad SL, was really excited to...
Read moreThe campsite was roomy/hookup convenient/single lane on the rough side boat launch which might be a little hard to use with lots of wind/lower water - BUT there are other places to launch locally. The Shangri-La has a FANTASTIC restaurant on it's grounds - very nice seeing as it is a 20-30 min drive back to any town. We had one meal there just for fun to see how it was (we were camping - had all our 'necessaries') and the meal was cooked perfectly - fresh tasting - reasonably priced - especially when you consider the quality. All in all it was a GREAT experience - and it was nice to be in a little small (er, tiny) town away from roads/noise. We would go again. One caveat - they like cash or checks which I had neither. She let me go home and send her a check!! Wow. that was fantastic. Felt like old time doing business on a persons word!!! THANK...
