This place is the opposite of everything I hate about restaurants these days.
So many places are trying to focus on their marketing, social media presence, charging as much as possible while giving as little as they can get away with, selling whatever food trend du jour produced by disenfranchised part time cooks whose job is to take something from the freezer, put it in a fryer or an oven, and then add whatever to get away with calling it "southwest" or "korean-style". I am tired of paying through the nose for obnoxious marketing, social media poser-ism, and constantly disappointing food.
Eli is simple, unpretentious, delicious, and a great value for money. The food seems as much like home cooking as anything I've had lately. The tacos, pupusas, tamales are all just what I want them to be. The beans are a great change from standard-fare Mexican (Salvadoran?), and I have to figure out the seasoning.
This is not a glamorous, cutting-edge Manhattanite restaurant. It's soul food, and I'm glad we have...
Read moreThis place is amazing. Hidden gem for sure. In town for a couple of days for work. Had not had any food all day long and needed something good to eat. Saw this place 8 minutes away past many restaurants and decided to give it a try. Sure glad I did. It is freaking DELICIOUS. The food is cooked upon request so it comes out Hot out of the kitchen. I was so excited to see all the choices of food I ended up ordering 2 plates of food and everything was exceptional. The horchata is legit I approve as I have had some in El Salvador, and Guatemala and it’s just like that. The pupusas are perfect. And the burrito is HUGE and just packed with flavor. You get chips salsa and queso while you wait. They have real glass bottle coke from Mexico as well just to put the cherry on top of everything. The portions are large. Honestly I could not be happier right now. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat...
Read morePlace a takeout only to have a couple things not available. When I went to pick it up, it was about half the menu wasn't available. We weren't overly impressed with the food, and I'm really hoping it's only because it's new. We will give them another chance in a couple months. The Carnitas were dry and tough, and tasted as though just roasted and microwaved. The should be braised and held in their juices. The birria tacos didn't come with the consume like it usually does for dipping. Decent flavor but minimal meat in it. Taco and tortilla shells are fresh made, but the taco were a bit too thick. The omelet was delicious, and we had to sub chicken because they were out of plantains. The chicken was dry unfortunately. We really enjoyed the rice, both versions of beans, and the different sauces. Service was friendly, and the inside...
