ALDEN EXPRESS AND ALDEN EXPRESS DELI — Restaurant in Town of Marilla

I hate to rate them this low. Most of the staff is great and 99℅ of the food is spectacular. They are only open Friday evening and they are always mobbed. They have a great salad/soup bar and almost every time the food has been fabulous.

The last time though my supposedly "huge" enough for two people platter was tiny. I mentioned it to the server especially because the crab cakes turned out to be smaller than mini frozen meatballs, but I didn't get very far. The owner came out and said they were "mini" crab cakes. To which I said I wasn't told this. I was told they were "crab cakes" and they didn't meet my expectations. The fish was also very dark brown and I mentioned that, and she sneered back from across the table that it looked fine to her. By this point the rest of the family was alsmost done with dinner so I said I would just skip it and wait for them to finish. A few minutes later the owner came back out with a big box from the "mini" carb cakes and made a big stink pointing to the box and saying "see" what it says, they're mini crab cakes. Honestly, I'm not sure how she wasn't embarrassed in so many ways. Firstly that the food they were serving came out of a big frozen box and secondly that she was acting like a buffoon.

I refuse to go back even though every other time...

The food is very good, however the service is terrible which is why I only give two stars. They have a bunch of young kids working there and apparently no manager ever on site. I can not count the number of times our orders have been screwed up. This week alone they have screwed up twice in three days. Ordered steak hoagie pizza two days this week with no mushrooms on it specifically cause one of our family members have a sever allergy to them, actually said that while ordering and they still had mushrooms covering the pizza both times! Other examples of screw ups are a ham sub ordered and when opened at home it had no ham on it, when taken back they then left off everything from the sub besides the ham ( cheese, lettuce, onions and tomato), chicken finger sub hot taken home and it was plain, deep fried mushrooms ordered taken home there was literally only 5/6 tiny little mushroom caps( not even close to the normal amount given) etc,etc. Bottom line is if you order from here always check your food before leaving if not...

Food was great. I think menu may have been inherited from Gee dee’s with a few changes. Pizza tastes similar. Sauce not too spicy not too sweet. Pizza was super cheesy this time around. What I was really impressed with was the lamb and chicken over rice (half and half as it’s listed on the menu). We elected to go with the white sauce. We were warned that the red sauce was very very spicy. Got a small container on the side. They weren’t kidding. One dip of of my finger to try it and it was searing. Not for me. Dish was awesome. My husband who complains about rice for the most part, even said the rice was good. Meat was tender and white sauce was heaven. Similar to what I’ve had from alibaba kebab in the city. Only complaint is the pita provided on the side was a bit dry. I hope they expand this portion of their menu with similar food. Had an opportunity to briefly speak to the owner and what I’m assuming is his son, super nice people. I hope Marilla welcomes them and they make a success...
