Boondocks BBQ Restaurant & Market — Restaurant in Town of Merton

We recently had Boondocks BBQ cater a birthday party, and it was a huge hit! We ordered brisket, pulled pork, baked beans, mac & cheese, cornbread, and slider buns, and everything was absolutely delicious. It arrived nice and hot and ready to go! I opted for a last-minute delivery change versus picking it up, which was accommodated with no trouble and definitely worth the price for not having to leave the party.

The brisket and pulled pork was incredibly tender, juicy and flavorful. They come without BBQ sauce (which I appreciate) to allow for people to choose their own. Both meats were a crowd favorite, especially when paired with the fresh slider buns for DIY sandwiches.

The sides were equally fantastic. The mac & cheese was creamy and comforting and topped with bacon. The brisket baked beans had a rich, flavorful sauce that complemented the meats perfectly. And the cornbread? It was moist, slightly sweet, and had subtle jalepeno or green pepper infusion and disappeared quickly!

We opted to try 3 homemade sauces: their house, vinegar, and blackberry and the house was a fan favorite!

Boondocks BBQ made the birthday party a memorable one with their top-quality food and took the load off of me cooking to be able to enjoy more time with our guests. Tom and his catering service was seamless, and the food was a perfect addition to our celebration. Such a good experience on all levels. Wide variety of food choices, very creative recipes, well made, timely delivered. ALL Wait Staff were approachable and down to earth. When I called to make reservations, voice on voice greeting was clear and had entertaining tone. Friendly warm greeting from hostess, immediate seating, even though busy. As a person who works in service of others, it's always a treat to have someone else serve you, couldn't of asked for more from our wait service person,Becca. Warm, friendly, good discernment on when to come to table and when to leave. Felt very welcomed by her and very informed. Thank YOU, powerhouse person and classy service provider !! Atmosphere, good parking, classy, yet down to earth ,good lighting cozy and welcoming. I loved the diversity of clients, and all appeared relaxed and happy. This place reminds me of places I went to when I lived in Colorado but better in affordability. I TRULY appreciate your sensibility in pricing. At first glance things were great. Nice atmosphere, service was good, drinks were ok, and the food looked good. Split pea soup was good and so were the mozzarella sticks. When it came to the barbeque which is why we came, it was at best mediocre.

The ribs were over cooked by a mile. Dry, mushy, flaky and tasteless. Thanks to the sauces they offer, it helped. Input from the family was that Chilis ribs are better and I would have to agree. The pulled pork sandwich was dry and mushy too.

The mac and cheese was horrible. Tasted like they just added liquid smoke to it. Very gross

Lastly, we were informed at dinners end that it was cash only. What!!!! We also were not informed of this when we made our reservation. A $130 plus dollar meal and we had no idea it was cash only. Oh, there was a tiny 8.5 x 11 sign at the front hanging off the bottom of the hostess stand stating in red and orange ink such news in a very dark ambiance. Saw it when we left and who walks around with their head down when entering an establishment. The hostess was supposed to inform us but didn't happen. Luckily we carry emergency cash, a little upsetting.

Overall, besides the bar food and drinks, not impressed and will go elsewhere...
